Background To improve the transparency of the local health care system, treatment cost was recently referenced to disease related groups. Treatment quality must be legally documented in a patient registry, in particular for the highly specialized treatments provided by neurosurgery departments. Methods In 2013 we have installed a patient registry focused on cranial neurosurgery. Surgeries are characterized by indication, treatment, location and other specific neurosurgical parameters. Background Conflicts of interest (COI) between industry and surgeons frequently introduce biases into surgical research. The abstracts submitted for presentation in scientific congresses are usually vetted for any indication of commercial bias. Members of review program committees regularly have recognized qualifications, and therefore certain COI are unavoidable. Malignant melanoma is potentially life-threatening but in most cases curable if detected early. Willingness to pay (WTP) is a preference-based construct that reflects burden of disease by assessment of the monetary value for a hypothetical cure from disease. Since WTP (directly as total amount of money) has not been assessed so far in patients with low risk melanoma, it was interesting to gain insights in this patient population and then, in a second step, compare it directly with the WTP of their treating dermato-oncologists. Physical and mental well-being are important determinants of medical doctors’ lives, including their professional activity, which has a direct impact on the health and lives of patients. The aim of the study was to assess the health condition of medical doctors from the Silesian Voivodeship. The physical health condition, including the prevalence of chronic diseases, drug therapy, and pro-health activities, was assessed. In the first part, new bounds for the number of conjugacy classes of maximal length of a finite $p$-group $G$, $r(G)$, are obtained, and they are related with the length of these classes. If $r(G)=p^m-b-1$, there exists a unique normal subgroup of order $p^b$, $N_b$, which is characteristic, and structural properties of these groups are studied when $b\le 3$, by paying special attention to the relation between $N_b$, $Z(G)$ and $G$. Abstract Starting from a 5 wt% ion power Nafion® solution and dissolving the dry residue in a suitable solvent (10 wt% solution in dimethylacetammide), re-cast Nafion films were developed for polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs) application. The used Doctor-Blade casting technique allowed to prepare scaled-up membranes comparable to the commercial Nafion ones with good mechanical resistance, thickness homogeneity and an excellent reproducibility. The differences between the re-cast membrane nanostructure and that of the commercial Nafion were investigated by synchrotron small-angle X-ray scattering.
