Data from: Strategic adjustments in sperm production within and between two island populations of house mice

2013

Sperm production is physiologically costly. Consequently, males are expected to be prudent in their sperm production, and tailor their expenditure according to prevailing social conditions. Differences in sperm production have been found across island populations of house mice that differ in the level of selection from sperm competition. Here, we determined the extent to which these differences represent phenotypic plasticity and/or population divergence in sperm production. We sourced individuals from two populations at the extreme levels of sperm competition, and raised them under common-garden conditions while manipulating the social experience of developing males. Males from the high-sp…

Data from: Multiple aspects of plasticity in clutch size vary among populations of a globally distributed songbird

2014

1. Plasticity in life-history characteristics can influence many ecological and evolutionary phenomena, including how invading organisms cope with novel conditions in new locations or how environmental change affects organisms in native locations. Variation in reaction norm attributes is a critical element to understanding plasticity in life history, yet we know relatively little about the ways in which reaction norms vary within and among populations. 2. We amassed data on clutch size from marked females in eight populations of house sparrows (Passer domesticus) from North America and Europe. We exploited repeated measures of clutch size to assess both the extent of within-individual pheno…

Optimal savings and health spending over the life cycle

2010

This paper investigates the relationship between saving and health spending in a two-period overlapping generations economy. Individuals work in the first period of life and live in retirement in old age. Health spending is an activity that increases quality of life and longevity. Empirical evidence shows that both health spending and saving behave as luxury goods but their behaviour differs markedly according to the level of per capita GDP. The share of saving on GDP has a concave shape with respect to per capita GDP, whereas the share of health spending on GDP increases more than proportionally with respect to per capita GDP. The ratio of saving to spending is nonlinear with respect to in…

The Use of Mobile Payment Systems in Post-COVID-19 Economic Recovery : Primary Research on an Emerging Market for Experience Goods

2021

This study investigated whether mobile payment services could drive post-COVID-19 pandemic recovery in the ‘experience goods’ sector (e.g., tourism) utilising Bandura’s self-efficacy or social cognitive theory. It explored the factors influencing the intention to continue using mobile payment services and the intention to recommend these to others. An empirical survey was conducted to assess the study variables, and the data obtained therefrom were analysed using the industry-standard Cross-Industry Standard Process for Data Mining method. The study results suggest that personal innovativeness and perceived trust influence consumers’ intention to continue using mobil…

Ābeļu (Malus x domestica (L.) Borkh) izturības pret kraupi (Venturia inaequalis (Cooke) Wint.) iedzimtība hibrīdajā selekcijas materiālā, veicot gēnu…

2018

Jau novērots, ka monogēna rezistence pret kraupi nav ilgnoturīga un to varētu uzlabot, iekļaujot vairākus rezistences gēnus vienā auga genotipā jeb gēnus piramidējot. Darba mērķis bija novērtēt un raksturot mājas ābeles (Malus × domestica ) izturības pret kraupi (ier. Venturia inaequalis.) iedzimtību un selekcijas procesa efektivitāti …

Archicottura: architettura e pratiche sociali

2020

Use of Biostimulants for Organic Apple Production: Effects on Tree Growth, Yield, and Fruit Quality at Harvest and During Storage

2018

The experiment was conducted during two consecutive seasons (years 2016 and 2017) in an organic apple orchard of the cultivar Jonathan. Several biostimulants were tested (10 in total), including humic acids, macro and micro seaweed extracts, alfalfa protein hydrolysate, amino acids alone or in combination with zinc, B-group vitamins, chitosan and a commercial product containing silicon. Treatments were performed at weekly intervals, starting from the end of May until mid-August. The macroseaweed extract was effective in stimulate tree growth potential in both years, as shown by a significantly larger leaf area (+20% as compared to control) and by an higher chlorophyll content and leaf photo…

Victims' experiences concerning the actions of the authorities and the coping skills used for surviving partner stalking

2017
