In this paper we consider 2D stationary boundary value problems for the system of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations and the heat transfer equation. The viscous electrically conducting incompressible liquid moves between infinite cylinders with square or round sections placed periodically. We also consider similar 2D MHD channel flow with periodically placed obstacles on the channel walls. We analyse the 2D forced and free MHD convection flow and temperature around cylinders and obstacles in homogeneous external magnetic field. Slewing mirror telescope of the UFFO-pathfinder: first report on performance in space

To observe the early optical emissions from gamma ray bursts (GRBs), we built the Slew Mirror Telescope. It utilizes a 150 mm motorized mirror to redirect incoming photons from astrophysical objects within seconds and to track them as compensating satellite movements. The SMT is a major component of the UFFO-pathfinder payload, which was launched on April 28, 2016, onboard the Lomonosov satellite. For the first time, the slewing mirror system has been proven for the precision tracking of astrophysical objects during space operation. We confirmed that the SMT has 1.4 seconds of response time to the X-gamma-ray trigger, and is able to compensate for satellite drift and to track astrophysical …

Jacobian-Free Incomplete Riemann Solvers

The purpose of this work is to present some recent developments about incomplete Riemann solvers for general hyperbolic systems. Polynomial Viscosity Matrix (PVM) methods based on internal approximations to the absolute value function are introduced, and they are compared with Chebyshev-based PVM solvers. These solvers only require a bound on the maximum wave speed, so no spectral decomposition is needed. Moreover, they can be written in Jacobian-free form, in which only evaluations of the physical flux are used. This paper presents the design of an electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter for a low voltage high current induction motor drives supplied by DC power grids, such as those used in several vehicle applications. In order to effectively design the EMI filter a suitable Common Mode/Differential Mode (CM/DM) separation technique has been used. In consideration of the high operating currents, a software based separation technique using time domain measurements has been applied. This paper presents a general procedure for the accurate measurement of power losses variations in electrical drives. More specifically, the paper addresses the issue related to the efficiency comparison of electrical drive controlled with different control algorithms. This procedure is applied to a permanent magnet synchronous motor drive, assessing its power losses by means of two different measurement systems, each one characterized by different accuracy and cost. Abstract Analysis of power transmission in a belt drive consisting of e. g. two pulleys might be treated as a boundary value problem. Tight side tension FT, slack side tension FS and the wrap angle α are the three natural boundary conditions. In the literature, theories are developed where seating and unseating as well as the power transmitting part of the contact are considered. The solutions presented so far don’t fulfil the boundary conditions properly, since a certain tension ratio FT/FS is associated with a certain contact angle and not an a priori specified one. The thesis provides a parametric analytical method for the analysis and design of power-split continuously variable transmissions, which represent the state of the art for heavy-duty vehicles and hybrid electric cars. The functioning of any driveline is described by mean of a simple set of kinematic parameters, regardless of the constructive scheme.
