Designing of microcontroller based Syringe Pump with variable and low delivery rates for the administration of small volumes
2015
Delivering medications and fluids intravenously is a common practice in modern medical procedures. Administering medications or fluids directly into a patient's blood circulation results in a predictable and immediate absorption of the drug or fluid administered, this may play a vital role in the treatment of certain acute conditions which require immediate action by drugs or fluids. Syringe Pumps are highly useful in delivering a precise quantity of the substance at specific periods of time as required. This research presents a proposal to create a cost effective working prototype of syringe pump for variable and low delivery rates for the administration of small volumes. The presented Syr…
Assessing the Effect of Drivers’ Gender on Their Intention to Use Fully Automated Vehicles
2021
Although fully automated vehicles (SAE level 5) are expected to acquire a major relevance for transportation dynamics by the next few years, the number of studies addressing their perceived benefits from the perspective of human factors remains substantially limited. This study aimed, firstly, to assess the relationships among drivers’ demographic factors, their assessment of five key features of automated vehicles (i.e., increased connectivity, reduced driving demands, fuel and trip-related efficiency, and safety improvements), and their intention to use them, and secondly, to test the predictive role of the feature’ valuations over usage intention, focusing on gender as a key …
Experimental Implementation of an Enhanced Field Oriented Control Strategy for Induction Motors Using a Low-Cost ATSAM3X8E Microcontroller
2020
This paper presents a low-cost Micro Controller Unit (MCU) implementation of an enhanced Field Oriented Control (FOC) technique that takes into account the non-linearity of the ferromagnetic material. The algorithm is applied to a three-phase 5.5 kW Induction Motor (IM) and experimentally carried out by means of an ATMEL ATSAM3X8E microcontroller. The effectiveness of the enhanced control strategy is verified by comparing the dynamic performances of the electric drive with those obtained by means of a traditional FOC technique. For this purpose, an experimental test bench is set up for the implementation of the enhanced FOC technique. Finally, the technical and economic features of the simp…
Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine Drive Powered by Fuel Cell for Automotive Applications
2020
Electric vehicles represent an optimal solution for the reduction of pollution in urban areas. In particular, the Fuel Cell (FC) technology is a promising solution especially for its charging times and zero CO2 direct emissions. The paper addresses the design and performance study of an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (IPMSM) drive powered by fuel cell for automotive applications. The IPMSM drive is powered by the use of 5,5 kW FC unit and it is composed of two DC-DC power converters and one inverter. In detail, a test bench has been carried out for the evaluation of the performances of each IPMSM drive conversion stage. Moreover, in order to simulate automotive working condit…
FREESCOO facade 3.0, a compact DEC thermally driven air-conditioning system for apartments
2020
FREESCOO is an innovative Desiccant Evaporative Cooling air conditioning system designed for ventilation, cooling, dehumidification and heating of buildings in residential and tertiary sectors. This paper presents the third generation of the façade version, which will be tested on field in Milan (Italy) within the Merezzate+ project supported by Climate-KIC. The adsorption bed used by the system is a finned heat exchanger packed with silica gel grains, which allows simultaneous dehumidification and cooling of the process air. The direct evaporative cooling process, operated downstream to the dehumidification, is realized using a rotary plate humidifier. The regeneration of the adsorption be…
<title>Electronic eye occluder with time-counting and reflection control</title>
2008
ABSTRACT In pediatric ophthalmology 2 3 % of all the children are impacted by a visual pathology amblyopia. It develops if a clear image isnt presented to the retina during an early stage of the developmen t of the visual system. A common way of treating this pathology is to cover the better-seeing eye to force the lazy eye to learn seeing. However, children are often reluctant to wear such an occluder because they are as hamed or simply because they find it inconvenient. This fact requires to find a way how to track the regi me of occlusion because results of occlus ion is a hint that the actual regime of occlusion isnt that what the optometrist has recommended. We design an electr…
Measuring job stress in transportation workers: psychometric properties, convergent validity and reliability of the ERI and JCQ among professional dr…
2021
Abstract Background The accumulated evidence has shown how professional drivers are, in psychosocial terms, among the most vulnerable workforces, and how their crashes (some of them preceded by stressful working conditions) constitute both an occupational and public health concern. However, there is a clear lack of validated tools for measuring stress and other key hazardous issues affecting transport workers, and most of the existing ones, frequently generic, do not fully consider the specific features that properly describe the work environment of professional driving. This study assessed the psychometric properties, convergent validity and consistency of two measures used for researching…
Bidirectional labeling for solving vehicle routing and truck driver scheduling problems
2020
Abstract This paper studies the vehicle routing and truck driver scheduling problem where routes and schedules must comply with hours of service regulations for truck drivers. It presents a backward labeling method for generating feasible schedules and shows how the labels generated with the backward method can be combined with labels generated by a forward labeling method. The bidirectional labeling is embedded into a branch-and-price-and-cut approach and evaluated for hours of service regulations in the United States and the European Union. Computational experiments show that the resulting bidirectional branch-and-price-and-cut approach is significantly faster than unidirectional counterp…

A Framework to Evaluate Autonomic Behaviours for Intelligent Truck Parking
2016
This paper presents a multi-agent platform to evaluate different strategies to manage the negotiated management of parking spaces in road rest areas. The system dynamically adapts itself to the preferences and needs of the drivers of goods about parking requests. The system is shown to be robust to incidents regarding the closure of road rest areas and allows a conversational interaction of new parking requests through an Android based mobile application.
