Iron-containing phases in metallurgical and coke dusts as well as in bog iron ore

Abstract Several samples of dusts from steel and coke plants (collected mostly with electro filters) were subjected to the investigation of content of mineral phases in their particles. Additionally, sample of bog iron ore and metallurgical slurry was studied. Next, the magnetic susceptibility of all the samples was determined, and investigations of iron-containing phases were performed using transmission Mössbauer spectrometry. The values of mass-specific magnetic susceptibility χ varied in a wide range: from 59 to above 7000 × 10−8 m-3·kg−1. Simulated effects of W dust ablation and deposition on the pedestal edge in JET D and DT experiments

Abstract A modelling analysis is performed on JET D and DT discharges, where W dust influx across the separatrix, in the pedestal edge region may affect L–H–L mode transition. The experimental basis of the proposed approach stems from the observation that transient impurity events (TIEs) are often associated with the presence of a shower of particles seen in the camera images and with strong optical emission. Characterization of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in dairy farmers

International audience; Background - Although farming is often considered a risk factor for COPD, data regarding the burden and characteristics of COPD in dairy farmers are sparse and conflicting. Objectives - To characterize COPD in dairy farmers. Methods - 4788 subjects entered two parallel COPD screening programs, one in agricultural workers and one in general practice from 2011 to 2015. On the metal abundances inside mixed-morphology supernova remnants: the case of IC 443  and G166.0+4.3

Recent developments on the study of mixed morphology supernova remnants (MMSNRs) have revealed the presence of metal rich X-ray emitting plasma inside a fraction of these remnant, a feature not properly addressed by traditional models for these objects. Radial profiles of thermodynamical and chemical parameters are needed for a fruitful comparison of data and model of MMSNRs, but these are available only in a few cases. An idealized mechanism for the orbital migration of protoplanets

We report here how the action of radiation forces on small solid particles in a circumstellar disc could induce a suitable mechanism for orbital migration of protoplanets. The ratio of radiation-to-gravitational forces acting on a particle depends on its physical and chemical properties. As a consequence of this fact, we show that different particles following the same trajectory would move with different velocities. Sufficiently large bodies, insensitive to radiation forces, would accrete dust particles that are moving more slowly, thus spiralling towards the central star and transporting mass and angular momentum from the outer to the inner parts of the circumstellar disc. Possibility of measuring the amount of intergalactic metals with 14N VII HFS line

AbstractWe discuss possibility of observations of the warm-hot intergalactic medium using the hyperfine structure line of highly charged nitrogen ion 14N VII (rest wavelength λ = 5.652 mm). Observations of this line will allow to separate bulk and turbulent motions in the observed target and will broaden the information about the gas ionization state, chemical and isotopic composition.Wavelength of this line is well-suited for ground-based observation of objects at z ≈ 0.15 − 0.6 when it is redshifted to the widely-used 6.5 − 9 mm spectral band, and, for example, for z ≥ 1.3, when the line can be observed in 1.3 cm band and at lower frequencies.
