Monotonic solution of heterogeneous anisotropic diffusion problems

2013

Anisotropic problems arise in various areas of science and engineering, for example groundwater transport and petroleum reservoir simulations. The pure diffusive anisotropic time-dependent transport problem is solved on a finite number of nodes, that are selected inside and on the boundary of the given domain, along with possible internal boundaries connecting some of the nodes. An unstructured triangular mesh, that attains the Generalized Anisotropic Delaunay condition for all the triangle sides, is automatically generated by properly connecting all the nodes, starting from an arbitrary initial one. The control volume of each node is the closed polygon given by the union of the midpoint of…

Intraspecific Differences in Spectral Reflectance Curves as Indicators of Reduced Vitality in High-Arctic Plants

2017

Remote sensing is a suitable candidate for monitoring rapid changes in Polar regions, offering high-resolution spectral, spatial and radiometric data. This paper focuses on the spectral properties of dominant plant species acquired during the first week of August 2015. Twenty-eight plots were selected, which could easily be identified in the field as well as on RapidEye satellite imagery. Spectral measurements of individual species were acquired, and heavy metal contamination stress factors were measured contemporaneously. As a result, a unique spectral library of dominant plant species, heavy metal concentrations and damage ratios were achieved with an indication that species-specific chan…

Comparison of Mechanical, Assisted and Manual Harvest of Origanum vulgare L.

2022

In Italy, the production of Origanum vulgare L. is lower than the national market demand, so there is an increasing interest in this crop, even if the manual harvest and bunch binding represent ca. 60% of the production cost. The aim of this work is to evaluate the harvest efficiency, as well as the working capacity, productivity and quality of mechanical harvesting by means of a reaper-binder designed for cereal and forage crops and assisted harvesting by means of a long-reach edge trimmer. In fact, the final aim is to suggest a machine and a method for oregano harvesting that could significantly reduce the time and, therefore, the cost of this crop operation, while achieving a product qua…

Torque Control During Intrusion on Upper Central Incisor in Labial and Lingual bracket System - A 3D Finite Element Study

2018

Background The aim of present study was to investigate the difference of torque control during intrusive force on upper central incisors with normal, under and high torque in lingual and labial orthodontic systems through 3D finite element analysis. Material and methods Six 3D models of an upper right central incisor with different torque were designed in Solid Works 2006. Software ANSYS Version 16.0 was used to evaluate intrusive force on upper central incisor model . An intrusive force of 0.15 N was applied to the bracket slot in different torque models and the displacements along a path of nodes in the upper central incisor was assessed. Results On application of Intrusive force on under…

Izrael a Palestyńczycy. Wojna i okupacja jako rozwiązanie?

2015

High-pressure, high-temperature phase diagram of InSe: A comprehensive study of the electronic and structural properties of the monoclinic phase of I…

2006

We report on an investigation of the high-pressure, high-temperature phase diagram of InSe. We optically observed the phase transition from the rhombohedral polytype (InSe-I) to the monoclinic phase (InSe-II) and determined the phase boundary up to $10\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{GPa}$. High-pressure resistivity measurements were performed to complement the optical measurements. Monoclinic and cubic InSe (InSe-III) were observed to be metastable around $14.5\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{GPa}$ and $420\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$, and evidence suggesting the existence of an as yet unidentified new high-pressure and high-temperature phase was found. By means of optical ab…

Pressure and temperature dependence of the band-gap in CdTe

2003

In this paper we report on isothermal compression measurements (up to 5 GPa and 500 K) of the optical absorption edge of 1 μm epitaxial layers of CdTe growth by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) on GaS substrates. The isothermal blue shift under pressure of the direct energy gap (Γ v 15 → Γ c 1 ) in the zinc-blende phase is about 7.1 × 10 -2 eV GPa -1 and is found to be independent of temperature within the experimental errors. The isobaric red shift in the stability range of the zinc-blende phase is about -3.76 × 10 -4 eV K -1 . Regarding the phase transitions, no discontinuity in the energy gap has been found in the narrow pressure range where the cinnabar phase can be presen…

Electronic structure of CuAlO2 and CuScO2 delafossites under pressure

2007

The electronic structure of CuAlO 2 and CuScO 2 delafossites is investigated by means of optical absorption measurements under pressure and ab initio band structure calculations. Measurements are carried out on CuAlO 2 monocrystals and pulsed laser deposited CuAlO 2 and CuScO 2 thin films up to 20 GPa. CuAlO 2 is an indirect semiconductor that is stable in the pressure range explored here. The pressure coefficients of the indirect and direct gaps are found to be 15 meV/GPa and 2 meV/GPa respectively. CuScO 2 is a direct semiconductor and the pressure coefficient of the excitonic peak energy is -5.5 meV/GPa. Two reversible phase transitions are observed in CuScO 2 . At 13 GPa the delafossite…

Preparation of N-doped TiO2: characterization and photocatalytic performance under UV and visibile light

2009

Nanocrystalline N-doped TiO(2) samples were prepared by using TiCl(4) or TiOSO(4) as precursors. The powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, BET specific surface area measurements, scanning electron microscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity was tested using the photodegradation of 4-nitrophenol under UV and visible light. Some samples were more active than commercial Degussa P25. A shift of the absorption edge to a lower energy and a stronger absorption in the visible light region were observed in the samples obtained from TiCl(4). Two absorption edges were observed in the samples derived from T…

Observing heme doming in myoglobin with femtosecond X-ray absorption spectroscopy.

2015

International audience; We report time-resolved X-ray absorption measurements after photolysis of carbonmonoxy myoglobin performed at the LCLS X-ray free electron laser with nearly 100 fs (FWHM) time resolution. Data at the Fe K-edge reveal that the photoinduced structural changes at the heme occur in two steps, with a faster (∼70 fs) relaxation preceding a slower (∼400 fs) one. We tentatively attribute the first relaxation to a structural rearrangement induced by photolysis involving essentially only the heme chromophore and the second relaxation to a residual Fe motion out of the heme plane that is coupled to the displacement of myoglobin F-helix
