Evaluation of Sentinel-2 Red-Edge Bands for Empirical Estimation of Green LAI and Chlorophyll Content

ESA’s upcoming satellite Sentinel-2 will provide Earth images of high spatial, spectral and temporal resolution and aims to ensure continuity for Landsat and SPOT observations. In comparison to the latter sensors, Sentinel-2 incorporates three new spectral bands in the red-edge region, which are centered at 705, 740 and 783 nm. This study addresses the importance of these new bands for the retrieval and monitoring of two important biophysical parameters: green leaf area index (LAI) and chlorophyll content (Ch). Abstract: Biochemical and structural leaf properties such as chlorophyll content (Chl), nitrogen content (N), leaf water content (LWC), and specific leaf area (SLA) have the benefit to be estimated through nondestructive spectral measurements. Current practices, however, mainly focus on a limited amount of wavelength bands while more information could be extracted from other wavelengths in the full range (400-2500 nm) spectrum. Neighbor-Distinguishing k-tuple Edge-Colorings of Graphs

AbstractThis paper studies proper k-tuple edge-colorings of graphs that distinguish neighboring vertices by their sets of colors. Minimum numbers of colors for such colorings are determined for cycles, complete graphs and complete bipartite graphs. A variation in which the color sets assigned to edges have to form cyclic intervals is also studied and similar results are given.

Computation of Yvon-Villarceau circles on Dupin cyclides and construction of circular edge right triangles on tori and Dupin cyclides

Ring Dupin cyclides are non-spherical algebraic surfaces of degree four that can be defined as the image by inversion of a ring torus. They are interesting in geometric modeling because: (1) they have several families of circles embedded on them: parallel, meridian, and Yvon-Villarceau circles, and (2) they are characterized by one parametric equation and two equivalent implicit ones, allowing for better flexibility and easiness of use by adopting one representation or the other, according to the best suitability for a particular application. Vertical scratches detection based on edge detection for old film

Automatic detection of image damaged regions is the key to automatic video image inpainting. Vertical scratches are the common damages in the old film. In this paper, a vertical scratches detection algorithm based on edge detection is proposed. The proposed algorithm first uses the operator which has the largest response to the vertical edge in Sobel operator to detect edges, and then uses canny operator to detect edges further. Third, we detect vertical lines in the image through probabilistic Hough transform. Finally, we obtain the true locations of the vertical lines scratches through morphology and width constraints. Ridge-line optimal detector

Image processing techniques have seen many developments in recent years. Starting from the pioneering work of Canny, Deriche developed a second order recursive filter capable of detecting stepped contours. However, there are other contour shapes that those filters struggle to detect. We describe a new optimal filter sensu Canny for detecting ridge-line contours. This is a third order recursive and even filter. It is dependent on three parameters by which detection accuracy is adjusted. The results obtained by applying this filter to (possibly noise- affected) images are compared with those in the work by Ziou. © 2000 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers. Art often provides valuable insight that can be applied to technological innovations, especially in the fields of image processing and computer graphics. In this paper we present a method to transform a raster input image into a good-quality mosaic: an “artificial mosaic.” The creation of mosaics of artistic quality is challenging because the tiles that compose a mosaic, typically small polygons, must be packed tightly and yet must follow and emphasize orientations chosen by the artist. Effects of high pressure on the optical absorption spectrum of scintillating PbWO4 crystals

The pressure behavior of the absorption edge of PbWO4 was studied up to 15.3 GPa. It red-shifts at -71 meV/GPa below 6.1 GPa, but at 6.3 GPa the band-gap collapses from 3.5 eV to 2.75 eV. From 6.3 GPa to 11.1 GPa, the absorption edge moves with a pressure coefficient of -98 meV/GPa, undergoing additional changes at 12.2 GPa. The results are discussed in terms of the electronic structure of PbWO4 which attribute the behavior of the band-gap to changes in the local atomic structure. The changes observed at 6.3 GPa and 12.2 GPa are attributed to phase transitions.
