Latvijā sieviešu saslimstība un mirstība no krūts vēža ieņem pirmo vietu starp visiem ļaundabīgiem audzējiem. Katru gadu saslimšana tiek pirmreizēji reģistrēta aptuveni 1100 pacientēm un ikgadu no krūts vēža mirst vairāk nekā 400 sievietes. Kopš 2009. gadā Latvijā darbojas valsts krūts vēža skrīnings ar mērķi uzlabot krūts vēža agrīnu diagnostiku, tomēr vidēji 32 % gadījumos krūts vēzis tiek diagnosticēts novēloti slimības III un IV stadijā (SPKC, 2017). Darba tēma ir aktuāla un darba rezultāti ļauj sniegt rekomendācijas agrīnas diagnostikas uzlabošanai un skrīninga programmas uzlabošanai.
