Interactive Effect of Dispositional Cognitive Avoidance, Magnitude of Threat, and Response Efficacy on the Persuasive Impact of Threat Communications

2012

This internet study investigated the effect of individual differences in cognitive avoidance on the persuasive impact of threat communications. A total of 289 participants completed a measure of dispositional cognitive avoidance and read either a high- or a low-threat communication that provided either an effective response to reduce the threat or not. We found that cognitive avoidance did not moderate the effect of magnitude of threat when response efficacy was low. By contrast, cognitive avoidance was relevant when efficacy was high: After a high-threat message, low cognitive avoiders reported more favorable attitudes toward and intentions to adopt the action recommendation than high cog…

Employment contract, job insecurity and employees’ affective well-being: The role of self- and collective efficacy

2018

A large amount of research has focused on job insecurity, but without obtaining consistent results. Some authors have pointed that this variability might be due to the operationalization of job insecurity. Different types of job insecurity can provoke different employee reactions. The aim of this study is to analyse the effect of job insecurity, understood as temporary employment (objective job insecurity) and personal perception (subjective job insecurity), on affective well-being. In addition, the moderator roles of job self-efficacy and collective efficacy are examined in the relationship between job insecurity and employees’ affective well-being. This study was carried out with 1435 emp…

Selected psychometric aspects of the Polish version of the Liverpool Self-efficacy Scale

2020

BackgroundSelf-efficacy expresses the individual’s belief in their ability to take up and continue actions in order to achieve a particular result and cope with various life events. For people with multiple sclerosis (MS), self-efficacy is an im-portant resource because it affects how they adapt to the disease, and influences their motivation, health-related behavior and physical activity. It also has a great impact on their quality of life. Because of the lack of tools for meas-uring self-efficacy in Polish patients with multiple sclerosis, the goal of the current study was to develop a Polish language version of the Liverpool Self-efficacy Scale (LSES) and assess its validity and reliabil…

Telepsychology and Self-help: The Treatment of Fear of Public Speaking

2007

Abstract This work presents a self-help, Internet-based telepsychology program for the treatment of public speaking fears. The system is comprised of 3 parts: The assessment protocol gives the patient information about his or her problem (i.e., amount of interference it creates in his or her life, severity, degree of fear and avoidance). The system also includes a structured treatment protocol, organized into separate blocks, reflecting the patient’s progress. This ensures that the patient does not skip any steps in the treatment (something quite common in traditional self-help manuals), which provides more control over the process. The treatment protocol is a cognitive-behavioral program t…

Alcune considerazioni sul rapporto tra libertà fondamentali del Trattato europeo e diritto privato

2015

The essay explores the “horizontal effectiveness” of fundamental rights and fundamental freedoms, i.e. the relationship between private law and the fundamental rights and freedoms recognized by the EU Charter, the European Convention and the EU Treaties. The author reflects on the reasons that impede the horizontal efficacy, i.e.the effectiveness in relationships between private parties, of certain fundamental freedoms. Particular attention is paid to the free movement of goods and to the reasons that, on a case-by-case basis, may justify the horizontal application of rules which instead should have only vertical effect. Finally, the author attempts to relate the issue of “horizontal effect…

Medicina babilonese e antropologia medica. Sull’efficacia delle terapie per il ripristino del desiderio sessuale maschile in Mesopotamia

2021

Research on the medical systems of ancient Mesopotamia has progressed considerably in recent years and has been enriched by theoretical contributions from the social sciences. The article explores Mesopotamian classificatory systems related to the body and pathologies, as well as the relationship between male and female agencies in the therapeutic itinerary. Other issues are investigated: recipients of treatment; symptomatology and ideology of binding; interrelationship between incantations and presc…
