A novel noise figure and gain test set for microwave devices

A new instrument for the measurement of noise and gain of microwave devices is presented. It differs from the commercial ones in the accomplishment of the gain measurement and is also useful for measuring mismatched devices such as transistors, The instrument is driven via HP-IB by a PC and a user-friendly virtual panel is designed to perform all the required operations. Genre-dependent effects of 3D film on presence, motion sickness, and protagonist perception

Do the increasingly popular 3D movies change how we perceive the content of the movie? We presented short (3.21 min) film sequences to observers equipped with shutter glasses. Three genres (horror, action, and documentary) were crossed with three between-subjects viewing conditions (director’s 3D, artificial 3D, and 2D). Observers had to rate how the film impressed them in terms of arousal, motion sickness, presence, and immersion. They also judged the personality, attractiveness, and intelligence of the protagonist in all viewing conditions. Not surprisingly, horror films produced more arousal and presence than action films. Abstract Knowledge about the expected interaction duration and expected distance from which users will interact with public displays can be useful in many ways. For example, knowing upfront that a certain setup will lead to shorter interactions can nudge space owners to alter the setup. Fully automatic face recognition system using a combined audio-visual approach

This paper presents a novel audio and video information fusion approach that greatly improves automatic recognition of people in video sequences. To that end, audio and video information is first used independently to obtain confidence values that indicate the likelihood that a specific person appears in a video shot. Finally, a post-classifier is applied to fuse audio and visual confidence values. The system has been tested on several news sequences and the results indicate that a significant improvement in the recognition rate can be achieved when both modalities are used together.

Steered Response Power Localization of Acoustic Passband Signals

The vast majority of localization approaches using phase transform (PHAT) consider that the sources of interest are wideband low-pass sources. While this may be the usual case for common audio signals such as speech, PHAT methods are affected negatively by modulation artifacts when the sources to be localized are passband signals. In these cases, steered response power PHAT localization becomes less robust. This letter analyzes the form of generalized cross-correlation functions with PHAT when passband acoustic signals are considered, proposing approaches for increasing the localization performance through the mitigation of these negative effects.
