Diffusion of digital culture: analysis of the Internet forum of a MOOC

2017

When MOOCs are increasing all over the world as a mean for improving the diffusion of culture and science, it is interesting to observe how those MOOCS build communities of knowledge, and which is the impact of those communities on the acquisition of knowledge. In this article, we present the principles of design of the MOOC Digital & Culture Writing that aims to spread digital culture. Then, we analyse the messages posted on forums by the related community, and the cognitive process to which they refer. Posts analysis reveals reflexivity processes when participants are writing on forums. It appears that reflexivity cognitive processes are at the heart of both social interaction and digital…

0νββ and 2νββ nuclear matrix elements in the interacting boson model with isospin restoration

2015

We introduce a method for isospin restoration in the calculation of nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) for 0νββ and 2νββ decay within the framework of the microscopic interacting boson model (IBM-2). With this method, we calculate the NMEs for all processes of interest in 0νβ−β− and 2νβ−β− and in 0νβ+β+, 0νECβ+, R0νECEC, 2νβ+β+, 2νECβ+, and 2νECEC. With this method, the Fermi matrix elements for 2νββ vanish, and those for 0νββ are considerably reduced. peerReviewed

Neutrino-nuclear responses for astro-neutrinos, single beta decays and double beta decays

2019

Neutrino–nuclear responses associated with astro-neutrinos, single beta decays and double beta decays are crucial in studies of neutrino properties of interest for astro-particle physics. The present report reviews briefly recent studies of the neutrino–nuclear responses from both experimental and theoretical points of view in order to obtain a consistent understanding of the many facets of the neutrino–nuclear responses. Subjects discussed in this review include (i) experimental studies of neutrino–nuclear responses by means of single beta decays, charge-exchange nuclear reactions, muon- photon- and neutrino–nuclear reactions, and nucleon-transfer reactions, (ii) implications of and discus…

Effects of bioheapleaching technology utilizing metal mine emissions on fish in boreal freshwaters

2018

Emissions from metal mining activities are known to deteriorate the quality of aquatic habitats and impair the condition and reproductive potential of fish. Metal extraction by biomining methods has been considered to cause fewer emissions, but for example in Finland, the impacts of a bioheapleaching technology utilizing metal mine on the local freshwaters have been substantial. In this thesis, the impacts of the bioheapleaching mine emissions on three native fish species, brown trout (Salmo trutta) European perch (Perca fluviatilis) and whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus pallasi), were investigated. Manganese and sulphate concentrations have been elevated in the mining impacted waters, and in …

Structure of superheavy nuclei along decay chains of element 115

2014

[Introduction] A recent high-resolution α , X -ray, and γ -ray coincidence-spectroscopy experiment offered the first glimpse of excitation schemes of isotopes along α -decay chains of Z = 115. To understand these observations and to make predictions about shell structure of superheavy nuclei below 288 115, we employ two complementary mean-field models: the self-consistent Skyrme energy density functional approach and the macroscopic-microscopic Nilsson model. We discuss the spectroscopic information carried by the new data. In particular, candidates for the experimentally observed E 1 transitions in 276 Mt are proposed. We find that the presence and nature of low-energy E 1 transitions in w…

Possible Editing of Alu Transcripts in Blood Cells of Sporadic Creutzfeldt–Jakob Disease (sCJD)

2011

Editing of RNA molecules gained major interest when coding mRNA was analyzed. A small, noncoding, Alu DNA element transcript that may act as regulatory RNA in cells was examined in this study. Alu DNA element transcription was determined in buffy coat from healthy humans and human sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD) cases. In addition, non-sCJD controls, mostly dementia cases and Alzheimer's disease (AD) cases, were included. The Alu cDNA sequences were aligned to genomic Alu DNA elements by database search. A comparison of best aligned Alu DNA sequences with our RNA/cDNA clones revealed editing by deamination by ADAR (adenosine deaminase acting on RNA) and APOBEC (apolipoprotein B ed…

Extensive nuclear gyration and pervasive non-genic transcription during primordial germ cell development in zebrafish.

2020

ABSTRACT Primordial germ cells (PGCs) are the precursors of germ cells, which migrate to the genital ridge during early development. Relatively little is known about PGCs after their migration. We studied this post-migratory stage using microscopy and sequencing techniques, and found that many PGC-specific genes, including genes known to induce PGC fate in the mouse, are only activated several days after migration. At this same time point, PGC nuclei become extremely gyrated, displaying general broad opening of chromatin and high levels of intergenic transcription. This is accompanied by changes in nuage morphology, expression of large loci (PGC-expressed non-coding RNA loci, PERLs) that ar…

INDUSTRY 4.0 AS SMART ENABLER FOR INNOVATIVE BUSINESS MODELS

2017

Master's thesis Business Administration BE501 - University of Agder 2017 Industry 4.0 is the upcoming 4th revolution within industrial setups across the world, mainly in manufacturing hubs. Industrial internet of Things (IIOT) will alter the dimensions of the way businesses used to be conducted and the way value was assessed and retrieved. IIOT tends to have a critical impact on the business models (BM) within various industrial sectors, either manufacturing or services. This study tries to observe IIOT related effects on the business models in regards to manufacturing industry from a Tech-based consultancy point of view. This study employs exploratory multiple case study approach to the to…
