Diagnóstico etilógico de la disfunción ventricular izquierda con tomografia computerizada: comparación con coronariografía y cardiorresonancia

2012

[EN] Introduction and objectives To evaluate the capability of multidetector computed tomography to diagnose the coronary etiology of left ventricular dysfunction compared with using invasive coronary angiography and magnetic resonance. Methods Forty consecutive patients with left ventricular dysfunction of uncertain etiology underwent invasive coronary angiography and contrast magnetic resonance. All patients were evaluated with multidetector computed tomography including coronary calcium presence and score, noninvasive coronary angiography, and myocardial tissue assessment. Results The sensitivity and specificity of the presence of coronary calcium to identify left ventricular dysfunction…

Anatomical variants and anomalies of the coronary tree studied with MDCT coronary angiography

2010

Measuring Spatiotemporal Dependencies in Bivariate Temporal Random Sets with Applications to Cell Biology

2008

Analyzing spatiotemporal dependencies between different types of events is highly relevant to many biological phenomena (e.g., signaling and trafficking), especially as advances in probes and microscopy have facilitated the imaging of dynamic processes in living cells. For many types of events, the segmented areas can overlap spatially and temporally, forming random clumps. In this paper, we model the binary image sequences of two different event types as a realization of a bivariate temporal random set and propose a nonparametric approach to quantify spatial and spatiotemporal interrelations using the pair correlation, cross-covariance, and the Ripley K functions. Based on these summary st…

From Conservation to Revitalization. Ambiguous and Critical Conditions in the Heritage Conservation Experiences of Erice

2022

The plans and the evolutionary trends of policies and practices implemented in Erice old town, in the south of Italy, in the western part of Sicily, can be considered a case study of total conservation as highly representative of Italian urban planning of the last 60 years. This paper aims to deal with the actual problems and the perspective of sustainable development of the historical centre of Erice, by adopting the approach of urban and territorial regeneration. This paper also highlights the historical and cultural context in which the Gubbio Charter (issued in 1960) is affirmed; i.e. the most appropriate approaches to historical urban centres; what we can learn from Erice’s integral co…

Il tempo nuovo dei beni culturali, dell'economia e dei territori

2021

The essay examines the evolution of the relationship between culture and economy in the legal debate, in the perspective of the progressive overcoming of the opposing tendencies to the mixture between the two areas in relation to the growing dimension of the enhancement of cultural heritage, identifying the weaknesses of the discipline (regional ) the participation of cultural assets in the urban regeneration of territories

I beni culturali: tra tutela e valorizzazione economica

2018

This article describes the historical evolution of the protection and enhancement of the cultural heritage, in order to verify the possibility that the economic development of the territory is connected to the enhancement function, so that the enjoyment of cultural property can be considered a possibility for a territory to economically grow.

Comparative Antitumor Effect of Preventive versus Therapeutic Vaccines Employing B16 Melanoma Cells Genetically Modified to Express GM-CSF and B7.2 i…

2012

Cancer vaccines have always been a subject of gene therapy research. One of the most successful approaches has been working with genetically modified tumor cells. In this study, we describe our approach to achieving an immune response against a murine melanoma model, employing B16 tumor cells expressing GM-CSF and B7.2. Wild B16 cells were injected in C57BL6 mice to cause the tumor. Irradiated B16 cells transfected with GM-CSF, B7.2, or both, were processed as a preventive and therapeutic vaccination. Tumor volumes were measured and survival curves were obtained. Blood samples were taken from mice, and IgGs of each treatment group were also measured. The regulatory T cells (Treg) o…

Lentiviral-Mediated Gene Therapy in Fanconi Anemia-A Mice Reveals Long-Term Engraftment and Continuous Turnover of Corrected HSCs

2015

International audience; Fanconi anemia is a DNA repair-deficiency syndrome mainly characterized by cancer predisposition and bone marrow failure. Trying to restore the hematopoietic function in these patients, lentiviral vector-mediated gene therapy trials have recently been proposed. However, because no insertional oncogenesis studies have been conducted so far in DNA repair-deficiency syndromes such as Fanconi anemia, we have carried out a genome-wide screening of lentiviral insertion sites after the gene correction of Fanca-/- hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), using LAM-PCR and 454-pyrosequencing. Our studies first demonstrated that transduction of Fanca-/- HSCs with a lentiviral vector d…

Therapeutic application of T cell receptor mimic peptides or cDNA in the treatment of T cell-mediated skin diseases

2000

An 8-amino acid peptide encoding a sequence of the transmembrane region of the T cell receptor alpha chain (TCR-alpha) was shown to inhibit T cell function by preventing functional assembly of the T cell receptor (mimic peptide). To avoid systemic immunosuppression by peptide application in vivo, we used a topical application of the peptide. In the system of murine contact sensitivity, topical application of the peptide inhibited the elicitation of contact sensitivity following application of a contact allergen in sensitized animals. Alternatively, when naked DNA encoding the peptide sequence was injected into skin before application of a contact allergen to sensitized animals, local immuno…

A completely automated CAD system for mass detection in a large mammographic database.

2006

Mass localization plays a crucial role in computer-aided detection (CAD) systems for the classification of suspicious regions in mammograms. In this article we present a completely automated classification system for the detection of masses in digitized mammographic images. The tool system we discuss consists in three processing levels: (a) Image segmentation for the localization of regions of interest (ROIs). This step relies on an iterative dynamical threshold algorithm able to select iso-intensity closed contours around gray level maxima of the mammogram. (b) ROI characterization by means of textural features computed from the gray tone spatial dependence matrix (GTSDM), containing secon…
