Since the mid-1980s the post-Chicago approach to antitrust economics has produced a few game-theoretic models which have challenged many typical Chicago antitrust propositions. Yet, Chicago style antitrust has not yet lost its hold on u.s. antitrust. Individual measurements and nested designs in aquaculture experiments: a simulation study

Simple and nested models for analysis of variance (ANOVA) in aquaculture experiments were compared with the help of computer simulations. Simple models for analysing variables that are based on tank means, such as final weight and growth rate, were found to be sensitive to differences in the number of individual observations in each tank. In comparison to nested models that take into account individual measurements, the simple models were found to overestimate the F ratio and increase the risk of committing type I error, i.e., accepting a false alternative hypothesis. PURPOSE To compare ocular axial elongation in infants after unilateral cataract surgery corrected with a contact lens (CL) or primary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. METHODS Baseline axial length (AL) was measured at the time of cataract surgery (1-6 months) and at age 1 year. AL at baseline and age 1 year and the change in length/mo were analyzed in relation to treatment modality, cataractous versus fellow eye, and age at surgery using linear mixed models. The aim of this review is to summarize the results of using posterior chamber phakic intraocular lenses (pIOLs) to restore quality of vision in keratoconus patients. These pIOLs can correct the refractive errors associated with keratoconus and can also be combined with other surgical techniques to improve the results.
Household Optimism and Borrowing

A unique Finnish household-level data from 1994 to 2009 allow us to measure how households’ financial expectations are related to the subsequent outcomes. We use the difference between the two to measure forecast errors and household optimism and link the errors to households’ borrowing behaviour. We find that households making greatest optimistic forecast errors carry greater levels of debt and are most likely to suffer from excessive debt loads (overindebtedness). They also are less attentive to forecast errors than their pessimistic counterparts when forming their expectations for a subsequent period.
