Quality evaluation of software architecture with application to OpenH.323 protocol
2006
Master's Thesis in Information Technology 3rd October 2006 The requirements towards software systems usually go beyond the correct functionality, the presence of certain quality demands are also very essential for the systems' acceptance by the stakeholders. So quality control and management must be carried out through the whole development process to ensure the implementation of required quality characteristics. This thesis focuses on the quality control of the software architecture. Several approaches for evaluating the architecture are presented. Furthermore the OpenH.323 protocol architecture is evaluated in a case study. That software architecture is evaluated with two approaches: Arch…

Applying Minimalism in the Real World: Results From a Workshop
2020
Minimalism is a user-centered, contextual and goal-oriented approach to technical communication originally developed by John M. Carroll (1990). In minimalism, the aim is to produce user documentation that focuses on the user’s needs, helps the user recover from error situations, and strengthens the user’s skills in working with the system (Carroll & van der Meij 1995: 245). The challenge with minimalism has been its practical application: although user-centeredness – the core of minimalism – is the key issue in technical communication, the abstract nature of the approach and its focus on software documentation has made it difficult to apply in industry settings (Virtaluoto, Suojanen & Isohe…
Vastuullisuusarvot suomalaisten tekstiiliyritysten tarinoissa
2022
Textile industry causes significant negative environmental and social impacts. Sustainability in the industry has lately yielded more and more research interest, however, sustainability communication is underresearched area. In this paper, we will focus on sustainability communications in the Finnish textile industry through the stories of companies in their webpages. Storytelling has traditionally been a mode of transmitting, producing and reproducing the culture. Stories produce a structure in the reality, explain phenomena and concretize abstract concepts. In this research, we approach the stories as rhetorical devises, which address, attract and connect the reader to the company behind …
L’UTILIZZO IN MEDICINA LEGALE DELLA MISURAZIONEDELLA SALUTE DEL MINORE SECONDO ICF-CY: ESEMPLIFICA-ZIONE CASISTICA
2015
The evaluation of minors within welfare contest requires an adequate multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach to clinical and psycho-social order. There are many evaluation’s instruments, but in the medico legal context particularly useful is the evaluation according to the guidelines of the World Health Organization, in the recent codification ICF, International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health [1] version YC (Children and Youth) [2]. The use of minor measurement according to ICF-CY is here reported in a child’s health experience with neuropsychiatric disorders. The system ICF-CY offers a revolutionary new model that relates biological, psychological and social …
Validation and Extension of the Usability Heuristics for Mobile Map Applications
2016
Heuristic usability evaluation is light but efficient method for finding usability problems. In this paper, we report the process of validation and further development of the previously introduced usability heuristics for mobile map applications. The validation began by testing the heuristics by 58 evaluators who used them for usability evaluation of four different map applications. The evaluators also filled a questionnaire about the understandability of the heuristics. The amount, severity and quality of the problems found with the heuristics were reviewed and the heuristics’ understandability analyzed. As a result, it was shown that the heuristics were efficient for finding usability pro…
Parents’ and children’s beliefs about learning Lithuanian language and their relationships to Lithuanian language achievement in Grade 2
2023
Previous studies have shown that as early as elementary school, children’s language skills are determine…
The Utility of Motor Evaluation in the Analysis of Effects of Motor Activities on Students
2017
ABSTRACT This research aims to evaluate the effects of motor activities on pupils at primary education. The two samples of pupils were divided as follows: the first group, experimental group consisted of twenty-five students with the age between ten and twelve years old, thirteen boys and twelve girls, group which followed a specific program containing agonistic, playful and initiation training in sports games; and the second group, the control group, consisted of twenty-five students with the age between ten and twelve years old, fourteen boys and eleven girls, group that took the classical physical education and sports curriculum. The motor evaluation tests at which the students have been…
Valutazione multicriteriale del saggio di capitalizzazione per la revisione del catasto degli immobili urbani - Capitalization rate multidimensional …
2013
The new revision of the land register is intended to give each real estate unit an assessed value which approximates the market value. The provided approach has statistical nature. However, in the absence of a well-established market, the coming reform requires the use of the indirect estimation procedure. This paper proposes a method for estimating the capitalization rate that could usefully be applied in mass appraisal. The proposed model for the evaluation of the capitalization rate is intended as an alternative to traditional inferential processes that apply in real estate market. It can be used even in market segments that are not enough active and does not require the use of technical …
The early changes in trunk muscle strength and disability following lumbar spine fusion
2012
To analyze trunk muscle function pre- and postoperatively in patients undergoing lumbar spine fusion. Associations between changes in trunk muscle strength and disability were also studied.A total of 114 patients undergoing lumbar spine fusion participated in the study. The flexion and extension strength of the trunk was measured preoperatively and 3 months after surgery using a strain-gauge dynamometer. Disability and pain during the past week was evaluated with the Oswestry disability index (ODI) and visual analog scale (VAS), respectively.Preoperative trunk extension and flexion strength levels were 319 N and 436 N in males, respectively, and 160 N and 214 N in females, respectively. In …
