The role of the thalamus in amnesia: a tractography, high-resolution MRI and neuropsychological study.

Although it is well established that thalamic lesions may lead to profound amnesia, the precise contribution of thalamic sub-regions to memory remains unclear. In an influential article Aggleton and Brown proposed that recognition memory depends on two processes supported by distinct thalamic and cortical structures. Familiarity is mediated by the mediodorsal (MD) thalamic nucleus and the entorhinal/ perirhinal cortex. Recollection ismediated by the anterior thalamic nucleus (AN), the mamillothalamic tract (MTT) and the hippocampus. Objectives: To analyze gender inequalities in socioeconomic factors affecting the amount of time spent travelling for work-related and home-related reasons among working individuals aged between 30 and 44 years old during a weekday in Catalonia (Spain). Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted. Data were obtained from employed individuals aged between 30 and 44 years of age who reported travelling on the day prior to the interview in the Catalan Mobility Survey 2006 (N = 23,424). The essay starts as a reflection about the changes of the transition to adulthood in contemporary life, it is a presentation focusing on the issue of identity construction in relation to the structural variables that condition the lifestyle of the young adult and their relationship with the family of origin. The adult’s task is a generative task aimed to increase and develop the next generation; therefore, we speak about a task that delineates itself as essentially educational. However, the discussion allows to see an education requirement/emergency that is not only young people but also adults; there is a priority to educate the adult society to take and rewrite their generative role.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Long-term memory impairments have great medical significance and a considerable health and economic burden. Understanding their cognitive and neuroanatomical underpinnings is of crucial importance. Severe amnesia is usually observed following bilateral hippocampal pathology. In particolare la tesi affronta lo studio delle architetture fondate da Nicolò Placido Branciforte nel corso del Seicento: il palazzo di famiglia a Palermo e il castello di Leonforte.
