Biogenic amine production by lactic acid bacteria, acetic bacteria and yeast isolated from wine
2007
Abstract Biogenic amines are undesirable in all foods and beverages because if consumed at too high concentration, they may induce food-borne intoxications. The biogenic amine production by 155 strains of lactic acid bacteria, 40 strains of acetic bacteria and 36 strains of yeast isolated from wine were analysed in wine, grape must and synthetic media by HPLC. We did not observe biogenic amine production by acetic bacteria and yeast; however, we found production of histamine, tyramine, phenylethylamine and putrescine by LAB. A correlation of 100% was observed between biogenic amine production in synthetic medium and wine and between activity and presence of gene. With the results expose in …
A complex thrust sequence in western Himalaya: the active Medlicott Wadia Thrust.
2017
15 pages; International audience; The recent activity of the Medlicott-Wadia Thrust (MWT) is investigated by geomorphic and tectonic studies in the Riasi zone, south of the Pir Panjal range (India, Jammu-Kasmir state of western Himalaya). In the Riasi area, the MWT forms a splay of five faults that dip northward. The recent activity of the splay is quantified using a set of deformed Quaternary alluvial units. The central branch of the thrust splay moved Precambrian limestones above Quaternary sediments and is sealed by 36 ± 3 ka (youngest OSL age) deposits. The other branches offset the top of a 15 ± 1 ka (youngest OSL age) alluvial fan by 180 to 120 m; the two southernmost branches form 17…
Tectonics and seismicity of the Tindari Fault System, southern Italy: Crustal deformations at the transition between ongoing contractional and extens…
2006
The Tindari Fault System (southern Tyrrhenian Sea, Italy) is a regional zone of brittle deformation located at the transition between ongoing contractional and extensional crustal compartments and lying above the western edge of a narrow subducting slab. Onshore structural data, an offshore seismic reflection profile, and earthquake data are analyzed to constrain the present geometry of the Tindari Fault System and its tectonic evolution since Neogene, including the present seismicity. Results show that this zone of deformation consists of a broad NNW trending system of faults including sets of right-lateral, left-lateral, and extensional faults as well as early strike-slip faults reworked …
Series arc faults in AC and DC electrical circuits. Characterization and detection methods
2013
This paper analyzes the problem of the arc faults in both AC and DC low voltage electrical circuits. The state-of-the-art of the arc fault detection methods is analyzed together with the UL 1699 and UL 1699B Standard requirements for protection devices against arc faults (AFCIs). An experimental characterization is carried out of the arc fault phenomenon, for both AC and DC systems, focusing the attention on series arcs. The experimental measurements are carried out on a proper test bench, which has been developed in order to reproduce significant arcing conditions, in accordance with the UL 1699 Standard requirements.

Coseismic extension recorded within the damage zone of the Vado di Ferruccio Thrust Fault, Central Apennines, Italy
2018
Recent high resolution hypocentral localisation along active fault systems in the Central Apennines illuminates the activation of seismogenic volumes dipping at low angle (<30°) in extensional settings overprinting contractional deformations affecting the continental crust of the Adria microplate. Individuation of the geological structures and of the fault processes associated with these seismic patterns will contribute to the interpretation of seismic sequence evolution, and seismic hazard studies. Here we report field and microstructural evidence of seismogenic extensional faults localized within pre-existing thrust fault zones. The Vado di Ferruccio Thrust Fault (VFTF) is a narrow …
On the de-energization of over-head low-voltage lines under high-impedance fault conditions
2018
Downed distribution conductors in overhead distribution systems, may not be a concern for equipment, but greatly challenge the safety of persons, as well as the integrity of properties. Upstream overcurrent protective devices may not be able to detect the magnitudes of fault currents resulting from these high-impedance faults. Even though protective devices capable to detect such faults have been available on the market, not all the utilities have equipped their stations with these products, likely due to the costs. In this paper, the authors formalize the problem, and propose a possible cost-effective solution for the low-voltage over-head lines with neutral wire. Such solution includes a …
Premises of liability of a person who assists in causing damage under Polish civil law
2020
This study has been devoted to selected issues of assistance in causing damage and more specifically to the issue of the premises of liability for damages of a helper under Polish civil law. There is an important dispute in the Polish doctrine of law and in judicial practice as well, whether it is possible to accept liability for damages of the helper in the absence of his intentional fault. The work was prepared using a formal and dogmatic method. Under Polish tort law responsibility for aiding and abetting a damage requires the helper’s intentional fault. The paper could be useful for academics and researchers dealing with the comparative tort law. The study raises arguments for the thesi…
A real-space approach to the analysis of stacking faults in close-packed metals: Modelling and Q-space feedback Longo Alessandro
2020
An R-space approach to the simulation and fitting of a structural model to the experimental pair distribution function is described, to investigate the structural disorder (distance distribution and stacking faults) in close-packed metals. This is carried out by transferring the Debye function analysis into R space and simulating the low-angle and high-angle truncation for the evaluation of the relevant Fourier transform. The strengths and weaknesses of the R-space approach with respect to the usual Q-space approach are discussed.
