Using recorded audio feedback in multi-cultural higher e-education : How do academics experience? A thematic network analysis

2020

The aim of our study is to shed light on how academics experience using recorded audio feedback (RAF) as a feedback method in multi-cultural higher e-Education context. We adopted a qualitative content analysis approach, applying thematic network analysis to the data received from three academics (a case study). This approach proposes graphical networks as an aid for analyzing and synthesizing qualitative data into basic, organizing and global themes. The thematic network analysis produced two global, six organizing and 48 basic themes. The two global themes were named “Speaking style” and “Culture neutrality/sensitivity”. Based on our analysis, academics can, by using RAF in multi-cultural…

Moderating cultural effects in a higher e-education context? Supervisor's tone of voice in recorded audio feedback

2017

Providing feedback to learners on their writing assignments is one of the most important and time-consuming tasks that a supervisor performs. In e-Education environments, especially in the case of distance learning, giving feedback becomes more challenging because there are often no opportunities for face-to-face interaction. Typically, a supervisor provides comments to learners in written form via email; however, the use of recorded audio feedback (RAF) in e-Education environments has become a viable alternative. This work in progress reports on learners’ perceptions of RAF in a multi-cultural higher eEducation context. Our observations indicate that learners tend to have positive feelings…

Adult Students in the Open University : Systematic Feedback and Continuous Development

2015

The Open University is internationally significant adult educator. Open Universities have an important role as an enabler for continuous self-development for individual adult students. Also the Open University students' feedback is an important factor in continuous and systematic development. The Open University collects annually systematic feedback and reflections from academic adult students. The results of questionnaires are exploited in the continuous development and as part of the Open University Quality System. nonPeerReviewed

Dynamic Potential of Feedback in Self-Regulated Learning and Motivation of Children with Mathematical Learning Difficulties

2017

The present study was designed to examine the effects of feedback conditions on learning and motivation of children identified with mathematical learning difficulties (MLDs). The performance of 76 fifth grade children on computational math skills and related task motivation was assessed. The groups of children were randomly assigned to one of two treatment conditions: immediate corrective feedback or delayed conventional feedback on two occasions. Results showed that children performed significantly better when they were provided with the immediate corrective feedback than when they were provided with the delayed conventional feedback. The findings suggest that provision of the immediate co…

Developing Peer Corrective Skills in Business Letter Writing in English as a Foreign Language

2019

Peer corrective feedback (PCF) implementation is a topical issue in writing skills development at tertiary level. Those researchers who explore the application of PCF in higher education (e.g. Liu and Sadler, 2003; Hyland, K. and Hyland, F., 2006) admit that students face difficulties in providing qualitative feedback that determines the effectiveness of this teaching tool. Therefore, the goal of this paper was to investigate what actions could be taken in order to develop students’ PCF skills and, consequently, foster the quality of PCF. The primary research method was a case study in which the participants were 24 second-year undergraduates majoring in English as a Foreign Language (EFL…

Development of a New Clusterization Method for the GEM-TPC Detector

2022

The Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research FAIR, in Darmstadt Germany, will be one of the largest accelerator laboratories worldwide. The Superconducting FRagment Separator (Super-FRS)* is one of its main components. The Super-FRS can produce, separate and deliver high-energy radioactive beams with intensities up to 1e11 ions/s, covering projectiles from protons up to uranium and it can be used as an independent experimental device. The Gas Electron Multiplier-based Time Projection Chambers (GEM-TPC) in twin configuration is a newly developed beam tracking detector capable of providing spatial resolution of less than 1 mm with a tracking efficiency close to 100% at 1 MHz counting rate. FEEDBACK AND ASSESSMENT PRACTICE IN SICILIAN SECONDARY SCHOOL

2022

Teachers’ evaluative competence is one of the pivots of the teaching action because it represents a potential spring for the promotion of learning, autonomy, and educational success of each pupil. Feedback offers the opportunity to enhance the singularity of each student's paths by framing communicative interactions which guide teachers’ evaluative choices by diversifying linguistic registers and choices of communication tools functional to educational success. Since its debut, [3]; [4]; [5], formative evaluation has changed the course of the assessment & evaluative practice. There followed the consolidation of learning through the development of self-regulation, autonomy, reflexivity o…

Teacher's oral feedback in a CLIL classroom

2015

Aineisto koostuu kahdesta nauhoitetusta tunnista yläkoulun kahdeksannella luokalla. Lisäksi nauhoituksista tehtiin litteraatit, joita hyödynnettiin tutkimuksessa. Työn tarkoituksena on selvittää, kuinka paljon suullista palautetta CLIL- luokkahuoneessa käytetään, sekä kuinka erilaiset suulliset palautteet voisi jaotella kategorioihin. Tutkimuksessa selvis…

A Nonlinear Control of Synchronous Reluctance Motors (SynRM) Based on Feedback Linearization Considering the Self and Cross-Saturation Effects

2019

This paper proposes a nonlinear controller based on feedback linearization for Synchronous Reluctance Motors (SynRM) drives that takes into consideration the self and cross-saturation effects. Such control technique permits the dynamics of both the speed and flux loops to be maintained constant independently from the load and the saturation of the iron core. The proposed technique has been tested experimentally on a suitably developed test set-up.
