Comparing the access conditions for minimum income support in four EU member states for national, EU and non-EU citizens
2019
This research analyses the conditions imposed on national, EU and non-EU citizens who wish to access minimum income (MI) benefits within four EU Member States, specifically within Finland, France, Ireland and Spain. The primary aim is to identify and compare the required MI access conditions. Furthermore, focus is given to the residence requisites, which are discussed in relation to relevant supranational regulations in order to detect possible multilevel implications. The paper concludes with the identification of different MI conditions, such as stricter age requisites in France and Spain. Moreover, the study of national cases allows for consideration of how the EU social protection floor…
Early adulthood and current physical activity and their association with symptoms of pelvic floor disorders in middle-aged women : an observational s…
2023
Objective To investigate associations of early and middle adulthood physical activity (PA) with symptoms of pelvic floor disorders (PFD), i.e., stress urinary incontinence (SUI), urge urinary incontinence (UUI), fecal incontinence (FI), constipation or defecation difficulties (CDD), and feeling of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) among middle-aged women. Design A cross-sectional, observational study with retrospective PA assessment. Setting University Research Laboratory. Sample A random population sample of 1098 47-to-55-year-old Finnish women. Methods Early adulthood PA, current PA, and demographical and gynaecological variables were assessed using self-report questionnaires. Logistic regressi…

Wooden, gypsum and cork floor in the Sicilian construction tradition
2014
This presentation deals with a part of a wider and more complex outline of the Sicilian construction tradition characterised by the presence of gypsum technologies. Gypsum is a very common material used in the island for the realisation of all building elements; its use is commonly spread throughout Sicily thanks to several and wide superficial out crops located in some parts of the island that make this material very easy to find. This presentation is particularly focused on wooden and gypsum floors found and analysed during searches and surveys in the regional area. Outline on criteria for some consistent and appropriate consolidation and restoration interventions are here proposed.
Solai ad orditura metallica. Per una storia della costruzione
2016
GEOMATIC TECHNIQUES FOR THE COLONNADE STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF THE HISTORICAL “CHIARAMONTE STERI” BUILDING
2019
Abstract. The monitoring of building structures has an increasingly important role in the engineering field, above all because they are concerned with the impact that such structures have in the area where they were built. Often, when walking through the old town centres, we realize just how obsolete and dangerous some buildings (even historic-cultural ones) are. The interest of some local governments in this problem has led, in the last few years, to the study and the trying out of measuring and monitoring methods which, quickly and at low cost, allow to define the extent of the deformation and the degrade in an accurate and reliable way.The Courtyard of “Palazzo Steri - Chiaramonte” is co…
Three-dimensional/four-dimensional transperineal ultrasound: clinical utility and future prospects.
2017
During the last decade, there has been a huge advancement in the use of transperineal ultrasound (TPU) in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. Its main applications in obstetrics include the monitoring of fetal progression in labor and recently the assessment of maternal pelvic dimensions, whereas in gynecology, TPU is at present widely used for the evaluation of the female pelvic floor, opening new boundaries for the assessment of pelvic floor disorders. The association of volumetric three-dimensional techniques has largely contributed to the remarkable progress that has occurred in the use of TPU. The aim of this paper is to offer an overview of the advantages, challenges and future pe…
The Prognostic Value of the Surface Electromyographic Assessment of Pelvic Floor Muscles in Women with Stress Urinary Incontinence
2020
Background: The use of surface electromyography (sEMG) measurements to evaluate the bioelectrical activity of the pelvic floor muscle (PFM) during therapeutic intervention is now well established. This study investigates the diagnostic possibilities of sEMG in women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI). The aim of this study was to carry out objective assessments of the bioelectrical activity of the PFM in women after menopause and determine the prognostic value of sEMG for assessing the PFM in patients with SUI. Methods: This was a prospective, observational study that evaluated the bioelectrical activity of the PFM in postmenopausal women with or without SUI (SUI group, n = 89 vs. non-S…
Self-reported symptoms in women with diastasis rectus abdominis: A systematic review
2021
Abstract Introduction Diastasis rectus abdominis (DRA) diagnosis via clinical examination is well defined, however, the assessment of symptoms has been less investigated. Currently, there is also scant knowledge on the consequences of DRA. The aim of this review is to identify the relevant self-reported variables in the study of DRA in women. Methods We performed a systematic review of observational studies through Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases. Studies evaluating the link between DRA and self-reported symptoms were searched using the following terms: "Diastasis rectus abdominis", "Diastasis recti", "Abdominis Rectus Muscle Diastasis", "Questionnaire", "Scale", "Survey", "…
