Abstract Background Cognitive impairment is considered a core feature of psychotic disorders. Deficits in cognition, metacognition and social cognition have been reported to be correlated, and indeed predictors, of functional outcome or level of disability. Psychotic patients tend to present lower IQ and show impairment in specific cognitive domains, and in social cognition, than controls. Several studies have found deficits in facial emotion recognition (FER) and a higher prevalence of the jumping to conclusions (JTC) reasoning and data gathering biases among psychotic patients, even at time of illness onset, compared to controls. This 5-year study examined students who were in individual psychotherapy. The specific interest of the study was in the stability of changes in their self-concept after psychotherapy. Students who were patients at the Dental Health Care Unit were used as a control group. Self-concept was measured by a multidimensional measure which consisted of four dependent variables: symptoms, Beck’s Depression Inventory, self-image test and general progress during therapy. Asthma may have an impact on lung function decline but conflicting results are reported in forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) decline. We aimed to describe the changes in FEV1 in lifelong non-smoking adult asthmatic outpatients during a 10-year follow-up comparing years 1–5 (1st period) with years 6–10 (2nd period) to assess factors affecting these changes. A total of 100 outpatients performed spirometry every 3 months during a 10-year survey. Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term results of transpupillary thermotherapy (TTT) for small malignant choroidal melanomas. Patients and methods In the time period 1/1998 to 10/1999 in a prospective non-randomised analysis 26 eyes with small malignant melanomas (located posterior to the equator with base ≤ 12 and thickness ≤ 4.5 mm) were primary treated with the TTT standard protocol (follow-up over a time span of at least 10 years). Results Thirteen women and thirteen men (mean age: 64 years) underwent TTT. The mean preoperative tumour thickness was 2.45 mm (0.8 - 4.5 mm).
