Simulation of granular organic fertilizer application by centrifugal spreader

2021

There is no specialized equipment designed to spread granular cylindrical organic fertilizer in the soil. There are also no rational recommendations available on how to spread this type of fertilizer. Mineral fertilizer spreaders are most often used for spreading granulated organic fertilizer. However, these fertilizers are significantly different from mineral fertilizers. Due to these differences, organic granular fertilizers often are spread unevenly, and the fertilizer does not reach the required working width. Furthermore, the rate of spreading is not accurate, and the fertilizer is often crushed too much. The objective of this research is to develop a simulation model for granular orga…

Responses of polypore fungi following disturbance-emulating harvesting treatments and deadwood creation in boreal Norway spruce dominated forests

2019

ABSTRACTThe emulation of natural disturbances in harvesting has become a widely accepted approach to reach ecologically sustainable forest management. The purpose of this study was to examine the r...

Influence of wood harvest on tree-ring time-series of Picea abies in a temperate forest

2012

Tree-ring width data are the prime source of high-resolution climate reconstructions covering recent mil- lennia. Their variations, from year-to-year, are calibrated against regional instrumental data to evaluate the strength of associations with temperature and precipitation records, though the level of variance explained by climatic variables is frequently less than 50%. Among the remaining factors affecting tree growth, the influence of forest management for tree-ring width time-series used to resolve annual climate reconstructions remains relatively unexplored. We here evaluate the impact of conventional single-tree harvesting on tree-ring data using a compilation of circumstantially ma…

Holocene vegetation and fire dynamics in the supra-mediterranean belt of the Nebrodi Mountains (Sicily, Italy)

2012

High-resolution pollen, macrofossil and charcoal data, combined with accelerator mass spectrometry 14C dating and multivariate analysis, were used to reconstruct Holocene vegetation and fire dynamics at Urio Quattrocchi, a small lake in the supra-mediterranean belt in the Nebrodi Mountains of Sicily (Italy). The data suggest that after 10 000 cal a BP increasing moisture availability supported closed forests with deciduous (Quercus cerris, Fagus sylvatica and Fraxinus spp.) and evergreen (Quercus ilex) species. Species-rich closed forest persisted until 6850 cal a BP, when Neolithic activities caused a forest decline and affected plant diversity. Secondary forest with abundant Ilex aquifoli…

Efficient gene therapy based targeting system for the treatment of inoperable tumors

2012

Background A considerable percentage of tumors are not amenable to surgery. We have designed a simple and powerful targeting system that offers an alternative option for the multi-component pre-targeting strategies used clinically. This targeting system can be used for any type of solid tumors independent of the tumor type, thereby omitting the need to engineer unique antibodies for each specific application or tumour type. In the present study, we show the expression of a chimeric fusion protein, which contains the low-density lipoprotein receptor transmembrane domains and avidin, after local gene transfer and its ability to bind biotinylated compounds in vivo. Methods Semliki Forest virus…

Phenolic Compounds in Needles of Norway Spruce Trees in Relation to Novel Forest Decline I. Studies on Trees from a Site in the Northern Black Forest

1992

Summary Contents of selected phenolic compounds in needles of Norway spruce trees (Picea abies) from the Black Forest were measured using a HPLC-technique elaborated for serial studies in forest decline research. Measurements on needles that were harvested on several dates during two growing seasons gave no hint of seasonal variations in the concentrations of the studied phenolic compounds. Values for picein demonstrate an average decrease in the needles of severely damaged trees compared with the still undamaged ones, but the results are impaired by strong individual variations among the single trees. p-Hydroxyacetophenone was found in only very low amounts showing no constant differences …

Saproxylic beetle assemblages in the Mediterranean region:Impact of forest management on richness and structure

2010

Forests cover almost 30% of the Mediterranean region today, yet forest management activities have influenced structure and composition of both natural and planted forests. To date no study has been conducted to evaluate the impact of forest management on saproxylic beetle assemblages, although it is known that the Mediterranean is a biodiversity hotspot with a long-lasting human pressure on natural habitats. We provide an overview of saproxylic beetle assemblages of three forest types (mature Pinus halepensis forests, mature Pinus brutia forests, young Quercus calliprinos forests) in the East Mediterranean region using a one-year sample from 12 forest plots located in the north of Israel. T…

STUDIO PROPEDEUTICO PER LA REDAZIONE DI UN PIANO DI GESTIONE FORESTALE DEL BOSCO TARDARA, SUGHERETA PURA DEL COMUNE DI TUSA (MESSINA)

2019
