High-resolution spectroscopy of two metal-poor red giants: HD 232078 and HD 218732

2010

An abundance analysis for 35 chemical elements based on a high-resolution (R = 67 000) optical spectra of two metal-poor ([Fe/H] ≈ - 1.50) halo red giants, HD 232078 and HD 218732, is presented. Abundances of 10 chemical elements were derived for the first time. Both red giants are chromospherically active and optically variable, located close to the red giant branch tip. Abundances of both stars generally follow typical halo star abundance distribution, while HD 218732 should have experienced a deep mixing episode and could be a first ascent asymptotic giant branch star.

Quitter sa région pour entrer à l'université : quels sont les facteurs explicatifs de la mobilité géographique des bacheliers ?

2007

New entrants to university : the determinants of regional mobility. This paper aims at understanding the regional mobility of new entrants to university. The regional mobility appears to be marginal. But, the impact of social and academic characteristics shows that self selection processes exist. The combined effects of field and regional impacts highlight the role of the availability of university curricula on student choice.

Domain walls and ising-BLOCH transitions in parametrically driven systems.

2002

Parametrically driven systems sustaining sech solitons are shown to support a new kind of localized state. These structures are walls connecting two regions oscillating in antiphase that form in the parameter domain where the sech soliton is unstable. Depending on the parameter set the oppositely phased domains can be either spatially uniform or patterned. Both chiral (Bloch) and nonchiral (Ising) walls are found, which bifurcate one into the other via an Ising-Bloch transition. While Ising walls are at rest Bloch walls move and may display secondary bifurcations leading to chaotic wall motion.

Tick Size and Price Diffusion

2011

A tick size is the smallest increment of a security price. Tick size is typically regulated by the exchange where the security is traded and it may be modified either because the exchange enforces an overall tick size change or because the price of the security is too low or too high. There is an extensive literature, partially reviewed in Sect. 2 of the present paper, on the role of tick size in the price formation process. However, the role and the importance of tick size has not been yet fully understood, as testified, for example, by a recent document of the Committee of European Securities Regulators (CESR) [1].
