Structural Design of Frames Able to Prevent Element Buckling
2012
Two formulations of a special multicriterion optimal design problem devoted to elastic perfectly plastic steel frame structures subjected to different combinations of static and dynamic loads are presented. In particular, two minimum volume design problem formulations are proposed: in the first one the structure is designed so as to be able to elastically behave for the assigned fixed loads, to elastically shakedown for serviceability seismic load conditions and to prevent the instantaneous collapse for suitably chosen combinations of fixed and ultimate seismic loadings; in the second one the structure must also satisfy further appropriate constraints related to element buckling. The action…

Spatial Cognition 2020/1: Book of abstracts : August 2-4, 2021, University of Latvia
2021
Spatial Cognition is concerned with the acquisition, development, representation, organization, and use of knowledge about spatial objects in real, virtual or hybrid environments and processed by human or artificial agents. Spatial Cognition includes research from different fields insofar as they are concerned with cognitive agents and space, such as cognitive and developmental psychology, linguistics, computer science, geography, cartography, philosophy, neuroscience, and education. Research issues in the field range from the investigation of human spatial cognition to mobile robot navigation, including topics such as wayfinding, spatial planning, spatial learning, internal and external re…
"Ostrożnie z tym Mo(t)zartem, Ryszardzie!" : onimiczne cząstki ramy wydawniczej publikacji fonograficznych na przykładzie albumu "Fragile" grypy YES
2022
Album artwork research tends to focus on aspects related to usability and graphics, włiile freąuently ignoring other elements of cover art - the paraphernalia of pho- nograms represented by functionally diversified texts. Their importance has been recognised with the Grammy Award for Best Album Notes, awarded for excellent liner (sleeve) notes in phonographic publications. This article focuses on the diverse character of the onymic elements in the sleeve notes on Fragile, the fourth studio album by Yes. Specifically, the songs are divided into those representing the band as a whole and its individual members separately. Proper names emerge in this example as a categorically diverse group, w…
The Narrative Approach to Research Professional Identity: Relational, Temporal, and Dialogical Perspectives
2022
In this chapter, we present the narrative approach as applied in the field of professional learning. The specific aim is to present the methodological opportunities and concerns it raises in research on professional identity within the sociocultural frames of work environments. We utilise examples from empirical studies that have employed a range of narrative methods to collect and analyse datasets. The datasets include individuals’ written and spoken narratives, encompassing the told experiences of their identities, and the meanings underlying these. We illustrate how a particular strength of narrative research lies in its ability to portray temporal pathways through the phenomena under in…
Netaisnas iedzīvošanās institūta regulējums Civillikumā, tā salīdzinājums ar kopējā modeļa projektu (draft common frame of reference)
2017
Eiropā ir izstrādāts Kopējā modeļa projekts (Draft Common Frame of Reference), kurš netaisnas iedzīvošanās regulējumam veltījis atsevišķu grāmatu. Darbā autore analizē netaisnas iedzīvošanās sistēmu Civillikumā un meklē efektīvāko regulējumu šim institūtam, salīdzinot to ar Kopējā modeļa izstrādāto netaisnas iedzīvošanās sistēm…
Framing Effects on Online Security Behavior
2020
We conducted an incentivized lab experiment examining the effect of gain vs. loss-framed warning messages on online security behavior. We measured the probability of suffering a cyberattack during the experiment as the result of five specific security behaviors: choosing a safe connection, providing minimum information during the sign-up process, choosing a strong password, choosing a trusted vendor, and logging-out. A loss-framed message led to more secure behavior during the experiment. The experiment also measured the effect of trusting beliefs and cybersecurity knowledge. Trusting beliefs had a negative effect on security behavior, while cybersecurity knowledge had a positive effect.
Customer Value Framework and Recommendation Intention: The Moderating Role of Customer Characteristics in an Online Travel Community
2019
The aim of this study was to develop and test a model that examined the interactions among the customer value framework, recommendation intention and customer characteristics in an online travel community (OTC). Data were obtained using Amazon Mechanical Turk from 251 members of an OTC as a sample. The partial least squares method was used to analyse the data. We found that all the variables of the customer value framework, including functional value, hedonic value and social value, were positively related to recommendation intention. In addition, using multi-group analyses, the study found differences between how different customer segments perceive each of the value dimensions and their e…
Recent progress in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for CO2 capture at different pressures
2022
Global climate change ensued by the rise in atmospheric CO2 levels is one of the greatest challenges our planet is facing today. This worldwide distress demands technologies that can contribute to our society toward “negative carbon emissions”. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies are in in important role for capturing CO2 from existing emission sources, such as industrial and energy production point sources, before new more prominent modifications to the energy infrastructure can be implemented. Recently, alongside point source capture, direct air capture (DAC) processes have emerged as highly sought-after technologies that are able to capture CO2 from the ambient air. Alongside t…
