Confined Pt-1(1+) Water Clusters in a MOF Catalyze the Low-Temperature Water-Gas Shift Reaction with both CO2 Oxygen Atoms Coming from Water

2018

[EN] The synthesis and reactivity of single metal atoms in a low-valence state bound to just water, rather than to organic ligands or surfaces, is a major experimental challenge. Herein, we show a gram-scale wet synthesis of Pt-1(1+) stabilized in a confined space by a crystallographically well-defined first water sphere, and with a second coordination sphere linked to a metal-organic framework (MOF) through electrostatic and H-bonding interactions. The role of the water cluster is not only isolating and stabilizing the Pt atoms, but also regulating the charge of the metal and the adsorption of reactants. This is shown for the low-temperature water-gas shift reaction (WGSR: CO + H2O CO2 + H…

4C 39.25: Multi-epoch polarisation observations at 15, 22 and 43 GHz

1999

We present multi-epoch simultaneous 15, 22 and 43 GHz VLBA polarimetric radio observations of the quasar 4C 39.25 which provide further evidence for the ongoing interaction between components `a' and `b' through the monitoring of the total and polarised flux densities of both components, the proper motion of `b' and, more importantly, of the polarisation angle associated with components `a' and `b'. There are strong pieces of evidence indicating that the superluminal component `b' is “colliding” or “crossing” the region associated with the stationary component `a': (i) at millimeter wavelengths, the total flux density of 4C 39.25 has reached a maximum and is already beginning to decline; (i…

Collision with and avoidance of obstacles by blind cave fish Anoptichthys jordani (Characidae).

1985

Blind Mexican cave fish (Anoptichthys jordani) were released into unknown surroundings and their swimming tracks were recorded. During the first 24 h in a new tank, i.e., in unfamiliar environments, the average swimming velocity of the fish was higher than during the remaining time in the tank. Collision with obstacles was recorded by an electrical contact detection method. Single frame analysis of video-recordings revealed that collision can be correlated with tail movements when the fish is close to an obstacle, whereas avoidance correlates with gliding during approach to an obstacle. These behavior patterns are discussed in the context of the flow field hypothesis and inhibition of the l…

Nella giostra della social photography

2018

An empirical approach for evaluating the usability of model-driven tools

2013

MDD tools are very useful to draw conceptual models and to automate code generation. Even though this would bring many benefits, wide adoption of MDD tools is not yet a reality. Various research activities are being undertaken to find why and to provide the required solutions. However, insufficient research has been done on a key factor for the acceptance of MDD tools: usability. With the help of end-users, this paper presents a framework to evaluate the usability of MDD tools. The framework will be used as a basis for a family of experiments to get clear insights into the barriers to usability that prevent MDD tools from being widely adopted in industry. To illustrate the applicability of …

Conclusion: Reconsidering State and Politics in Religious Peacebuilding

2016

In the concluding chapter, Steen-Johnsen suggests that the conceptual framework of Brewer et al. on religion and peacemaking goes a long way in explaining how state–religious relations can mediate opportunities to build peace. She underlines, however, that including how the political strategies of state authorities regarding the civil sphere and the enactment of these strategies in state–religious relations affect religious peacebuilding strengthens the analytical capacity of Brewer et al.’s framework. She underlines that in order to understand the full complexity of how the political strategies of state authorities impact on religious peacebuilding, we need to study these state–religious i…

1959: The Stabilization Plan and the End of Autarky

2020

This chapter analyses the contribution of the 1959 Plan de Estabilizacion (Stabilization Plan) to the economic changes that occurred in Spain during the 1960s. Economic growth improved in the 1950s after a decade of stagnation, but it was autarkic growth and the country accumulated serious imbalances. By reducing interventionism, initiating a process of liberalization and creating an appropriate economic framework, after two decades of autarky, the Plan contributed to promoting economic growth and helped change attitudes and mentalities. Moreover, the Plan had a long-term impact by allowing Spain to take advantage of a favourable international context during the 1960s. However, the dictator…

The Common Grounds of Adherence? A Qualitative Analysis of Young Partisans’ Collective Identity

2019

While party identification is one of the mostly used concepts for the explanation of vote choice, the components of party identification and the collective identity of party adherents were never explored systematically. After conceptualizing party identification within the social identity approach, we propose a research framework for the analysis of the collective identity of party adherents. Finally, in a first explorative attempt, we use this framework to analyze, as an example, the collective identity of adherents of the German parties SPD and the Greens. Although the two parties are part of the same ideological camp, we found that they both emphasize the importance of shared values, iss…

A new approach for modeling dry deposition velocity of particles

2018

Abstract The dry deposition process is recognized as an important pathway among the various removal processes of pollutants in the atmosphere. In this field, there are several models reported in the literature useful to predict the dry deposition velocity of particles of different diameters but many of them are not capable of representing dry deposition phenomena for several categories of pollutants and deposition surfaces. Moreover, their applications is valid for specific conditions and if the data in that application meet all of the assumptions required of the data used to define the model. In this paper a new dry deposition velocity model based on an electrical analogy schema is propose…

Emission standards versus immission standards for assessing the impact of urban drainage on ephemeral receiving water bodies

2010

In the past, emission standard indicators have been adopted by environmental regulation authorities in order to preserve the quality of a receiving water body. Such indicators are based on the frequency or magnitude of a polluted discharge that may be continuous or intermittent. In order to properly maintain the quality of receiving waters, the Water Framework Directive, following the basic ideas of British Urban Pollution Manual, has been established. The Directive has overtaken the emission-standard concept, substituting it with the stream-standard concept that fixes discharge limits for each polluting substance depending on the self-depurative characteristics of receiving waters. Stream-…
