WZ Production in Association with Two Jets at Next-to-Leading Order in QCD

2013

We report on the calculation of W-+/- Zjj production with leptonic decays at hadron-hadron colliders at next-to-leading order in QCD. These processes are important both to test the quartic gauge couplings of the standard model and because they constitute relevant backgrounds to beyond standard model physics searches. Our results show that the next-to-leading order corrections reduce significantly the scale uncertainties and have a nontrivial phase space dependence.

Studies of QCD at $e^{+}e^{-}$ centre-of-mass energies between 91 and 209 GeV

2004

The hadronic final states observed with the ALEPH detector at LEP in e(+)e(-) annihilation are analysed using 730 pb(-1) of data collected between 91 and 209 GeV in the framework of QCD. In particular event-shape variables and inclusive charged particle spectra are measured. The energy evolution of quantities derived from these measurements is compared to analytic QCD predictions. The mean charged particle multiplicity, the charged particle momentum spectrum and its peak position are compared to predictions of the modified-leading-logarithmic approximation. The strong coupling constant alpha(s) is determined from a fit of the QCD prediction to distributions of six event-shape variables at e…

Heavy-flavour production in the SACOT-mT scheme

2019

The hadroproduction of heavy-flavoured mesons has recently attracted a growing interest e.g. within the people involved in global analysis of proton and nuclear parton distribution functions, saturation physics, and physics of cosmic rays. In particular, the D- and B-meson measurements of LHCb at forward direction are sensitive to gluon dynamics at small $x$ and are one of the few perturbative small-$x$ probes before the next generation deep-inelastic-scattering experiments. In this talk, we will concentrate on the collinear-factorization approach to inclusive D-meson production and describe a novel implementation --- SACOT-$m_{\rm T}$ --- of the general-mass variable flavour number scheme …

The present status of the EPS nuclear PDFs

2010

The recent global analyses of the nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) lend support to the validity of the factorization theorem of QCD in high-energy processes involving bound nucleons. With a special attention on our latest global analysis EPS09, we review the recent developements in the domain of nuclear PDFs.

Nucleon Structure Functions and Light-Front Dynamics

1999

We present a quark-parton model to describe polarized and unpolarized nucleon structure functions. The twist-two matrix elements for the QCD evolution analysis of lepton-hadron scattering are calculated within a light-front covariant quark model. The relativistic effects in the three-body wave function are discussed for both the polarized and unpolarized cases. Predictions are given for the polarized gluon distributions as will be seen in future experiments.

Pion–nucleus Drell–Yan data as a novel constraint for nuclear PDFs

2017

We have studied the prospects of using the Drell-Yan dilepton process in pion-nucleus collisions as a novel input in the global analysis of nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs). In a NLO QCD framework, we find the measured nuclear cross-section ratios from the NA3, NA10 and E615 experiments to be largely insensitive to the pion parton distributions and also compatible with the EPS09 and nCTEQ15 nPDFs. These data sets can thus be, and in EPPS16 have been, included in global nPDF analyses without introducing significant new theoretical uncertainties or tension with the other data. In particular, we explore the constraining power of these data sets on the possible flavour asymmetry in…

On-shell recursion relations for all Born QCD amplitudes

2007

We consider on-shell recursion relations for all Born QCD amplitudes. This includes amplitudes with several pairs of quarks and massive quarks. We give a detailed description on how to shift the external particles in spinor space and clarify the allowed helicities of the shifted legs. We proof that the corresponding meromorphic functions vanish at z --> infinity. As an application we obtain compact expressions for helicity amplitudes including a pair of massive quarks, one negative helicity gluon and an arbitrary number of positive helicity gluons.

Quarks in Few Hadron Systems

1994

We make use of QCD-based quark models to analyze the observability of quark effects in few hadron systems. A hadron is described by a two phase picture. The dynamics of the interior (perturbative) phase consists of a mechanism to confine the elementary degrees of freedom and an asymptotic QGD type interaction. The dynamics of the exterior (non perturbative) phase is approximated by an effective mesonic lagrangian.

Bottomonium precision tests from full lattice QCD: Hyperfine splitting, ϒ leptonic width, and b quark contribution to e+e−→hadrons

2021

We calculate the mass difference between the $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Upsilon}}$ and ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{b}$ and the $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Upsilon}}$ leptonic width from lattice QCD using the highly improved staggered quark formalism for the $b$ quark and including $u$, $d$, $s$ and $c$ quarks in the sea. We have results for lattices with lattice spacing as low as 0.03 fm and multiple heavy quark masses, enabling us to map out the heavy quark mass dependence and determine values at the $b$ quark mass. Our results are ${M}_{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Upsilon}}}\ensuremath{-}{M}_{{\ensuremath{\eta}}_{b}}=57.5(2.3)(1.0)\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}$ (where the second uncertainty comes from neglect of …
