I marginalia di Dino Buzzati: schemi, illustrazioni e disegni
2022
Ornamento e Architettura. L'estetica funzionalistica di Louis H. Sullivan
2010
The present volume offers an introduction to and advances a new interpretation of the aesthetic of Louis Henry Sullivan(1856-1924). Sullivan is universally known as one of the most important American architects, possibly even the greatest one of the 19th century. Scholars of the Modern Movement have misinterpreted his motto “form follows function” and have hailed him as the “father of functionalism”. Sullivan, however, attributed to the concepts of “form”, “function” and “suitability” a higher and more poetic meaning than the other architects of the Chicago School, among whom the debate on such issues, as related to Gottfried Semper’s theories and evolutionist doctrines, was quite heated. N…
Forma e funzione alla prova della fotografia. Alcune riflessioni a partire da Walker Evans
2022
Abstract. The form-function relationship is a topos of culture, investigated from multiple perspectives: it is useful to understand the role that objects have played in the cultural process. The contribution analyses the photographic representation of objects and aims to highlight the characteristics of objects that emerge through photographic representation: the images by Walker Evans, presented in the portfolio Beauties of the Common Tool («Fortune Magazine», 1955), demonstrate the capacity of photography to highlight the formal and functional characteristics of tools and the role they play in the process of hominization.

Cardiovascular Management Self-efficacy: Psychometric Properties of a New Scale and Its Usefulness in a Rehabilitation Context.
2015
Self-efficacy beliefs have been shown to affect various effective health-promoting behaviors in patients. Unfortunately, availability of reliable and valid measures of self-efficacy in cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) is still very limited. Background: Self-efficacy beliefs have been shown to affect various effective health-promoting behaviors in patients. Unfortunately, availability of reliable and valid measures of self-efficacy in cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) is still very limited. Purpose: The aims of this study were to present a new scale measuring self-efficacy beliefs in managing CVD and to examine its psychometric properties. Social networks and social activities promote cognitive functioning in both concurrent and prospective time: evidence from the SHARE survey
2018
The study aimed to investigate the role of social activities, social networks as well as socioeconomic status (SES) in influencing some aspects of cognitive functioning (immediate and delayed verbal recall tests and semantic verbal fluency) in elderly people over time. This analysis was conducted on a sample of 31,954 healthy elderly people (58% female, mean age 65.54 ± 9.74) interviewed in both the fourth and sixth waves of the Survey on Health, Aging and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), in 2011 and 2015. A structural equation model with measurement component was used to assess the relationship between cognitive function, social life and SES over time. Multilevel ordinal logistic regression w…
Emotional intelligence in children with severe sleep-related breathing disorders
2019
Background. Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) affects up to 4% of a pediatric population, with many comorbidities in the medium-long term. Functional alterations in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) may explain why OSAS impacts aspects such as executive functions, memory, motor control, attention, visual-spatial skills, learning, and mood regulation. Emotional intelligence (EI) is a complex neuropsychological function that could be impaired in many clinical conditions. Purpose. The aim of the study is to evaluate the difference in emotional intelligence skills among children with OSAS and healthy subjects (nOSAS). Methods. 129 children (72 males; mean age 7.64±1.98 years) affected by OSAS w…

Cognitive rehabilitation of schizophrenia through NeuroVr training.
2013
Cognitive difficulties are prevalent in people with diagnosis of schizophrenia and are associated with poor long-term functioning. In particular, memory, selective, divided and sustained attention and executive functions are altered by this disease. We used a Virtual Reality environment (developed via the NeuroVr2.0 software) for the rehabilitation of shifting, sustained attention and action planning functions using tasks reminiscent of daily life tasks. Test and retest showed significant differences in the assessed cognitive dimensions.
