Structure and function of ferredoxin-NADP+-oxidoreductase

1987

The redox-enzyme ferredoxin-NADP-oxidoreductase has been shown to be activated by light and inactivated in the dark. This review will summarize recent data concerning the biochemical characterization of the enzyme compared to its in-vivo activation. Further-more the mechanism of this activation process is discussed as a conformational change caused by the light-driven proton gradient.

Reactivity of CuI and CuBr toward Et2S: a reinvestigation on the self-assembly of luminescent copper(I) coordination polymers.

2010

CuI reacts with SEt(2) in hexane to afford the known strongly luminescent 1D coordination polymer [(Et(2)S)(3){Cu(4)(mu(3)-I)(4)}](n) (1). Its X-ray structure has been redetermined at 115, 235, and 275 K in order to address the behavior of the cluster-centered emission and is built upon Cu(4)(mu(3)-I)(4) cubane-like clusters as secondary building units (SBUs), which are interconnected via bridging SEt(2) ligands. However, we could not reproduce the preparation of a coordination polymer with composition [(Et(2)S)(3){Cu(4)(mu(3)-Br)(4)}](n) as reported in Inorg. Chem. 1975, 14, 1667. In contrast, the autoassembly reaction of SEt(2) with CuBr results in the formation of a novel 1D coordination…

Conformational investigation of α,β-dehydropeptides. IX. N-Acetyl-(E)-α,β-dehydrobutyrine N′-methylamide: stereoelectronic properties from infrared a…

2009

The Fourier transform infrared spectra of Ac-(E)-deltaAbu-NHMe were analyzed to determine the predominant solution conformation(s) of this (E)-alpha,beta-dehydropeptide-related compound and the electron density perturbation in its amide groups. The measurements were performed in dichloromethane and acetonitrile in the region of mode vs (N-H), amide I, amide II and vs (C(alpha)=Cbeta). The equilibrium geometrical parameters, calculated by a method based on the density functional theory with the B3LYP functional and the 6-31G* basis set, were used to support spectroscopic interpretation and gain some deeper insight into the molecule. The experimental and theoretical data were compared with th…

Chemistry of transition-metal clusters with mixed Sb/S ligands: evidence for a terminal Sb=S double bond in Cp*3Rh3Sb2S5 (Cp* = C5Me5).

2005

The reaction of [Cp 2 *Rh 2 Cl 4 ] (Cp* = C 5 Me 5 ) with a slight excess of K 3 SbS 3 in boiling THF gave the neutral clusters [Cp* 4 Rh 4 S 5 ] (1), [Cp* 3 Rh 3 Sb 2 S 5 ] (2), and after salt metathesis [Cp* 3 Rh 3 SbS n ]PF 6 (3; n = 5 and 6). The structures of 1-3 are heterocubane clusters with Cp*Rh, S, and Sb vertices but with sulfur inserted into one (1 and 2) or two (3) edges. X-ray diffraction analysis of 2 additionally reveals a very short Sb-S distance of 2.297(1) A within the novel μ 3 -Sb 2 S 4 ligand. Density functional theory calculation of the model compounds [SSbS] 3 - , [HSSbS] 2 - , and [HSSbH 2 S] 0 provided strong evidence for the existence of a stable terminal Sb=S dou…

Fabrication of Single Cylindrical Au-Coated Nanopores with Non-Homogeneous Fixed Charge Distribution Exhibiting High Current Rectifications

2014

We have designed and characterized a cylindrical nanopore that exhibits high electrochemical current rectification ratios at low and intermediate electrolyte concentrations. For this purpose, the track-etched single cylindrical nanopore in polymer membrane is coated with a gold (Au) layer via electroless plating technique. Then, a non-homogeneous fixed charge distribution inside the Au-coated nanopore is obtained by incorporating thiol-terminated uncharged poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) chains in series to poly(4-vinyl pyridine) (PVP) chains, which are positively charged at acidic pH values. The functionalization reaction is checked by measuring the current–voltage (I–V) curves prior …

A theoretical study of neutral and reduced tetracyano-p-quinodimethane (TCNQ)

2004

Abstract The molecular structure of neutral, anionic, and dianionic tetracyano- p -quinodimethane (TCNQ), as well as the electron affinity of TCNQ, have been studied with HF, MP2, and different density functional theory (DFT) procedures. The optimized geometries compare well with the available experimental data, although the C N bond distance is not correctly described at the MP2 level. The calculated parameters are rather insensitive to the basis set employed, and the addition of diffuse functions does not yield significant changes. When the extra electrons are added, the central ring of TCNQ progressively becomes more aromatic. Compared with the CCSD(T) estimate, the value of the adiabati…

Direct evaluation of the electron density correlation function of partially crystalline polymers

1980

A discussion of the general properties of the one-dimensional electron density correlation function K(z) of a partially crystalline polymer with lamellar structure shows that application of a graphical extrapolation procedure permits direct determination of the crystallinity, the specific inner surface, and the electron density difference ηc − ηa. The procedure is based upon the occurrence of a straight section in the “self-correlation” range of K(z). Curved and nonparallel lamellae do not invalidate the concept. In the case of heterogeneous samples composed of partially crystalline and totally amorphous regions, some of the parameters of the experimentally obtained correlation function, as…

Selective CO 2 Sorption Using Compartmentalized Coordination Polymers with Discrete Voids**

2021

Carbon capture and storage with porous materials is one of the most promising technologies to minimize CO2 release into the atmosphere. Here, we report a family of compartmentalized coordination polymers (CCPs) capable of capturing gas molecules in a selective manner based on two novel tetrazole-based ligands. Crystal structures have been modelled theoretically under the Density Functional Theory (DFT) revealing the presence of discrete voids of 380 A3 . Single gas adsorption isotherms of N2 , CH4 and CO2 have been measured, obtaining a loading capacity of 0.6, 1.7 and 2.2 molecules/void at 10 bar and at 298 K for the best performing material. Moreover, they present excellent selectivity an…

Determination of molecular weights and Stokes' radii of non-denatured proteins by polyacrylamide gradient gel electrophoresis. 1. An equation relatin…

1982

Untreated and processed gel plates of polyacrylamide (PAA) gradient gels were cut into strips perpendicularly to their length, and the wet and dry matter of the sections was determined. In untreated gels the apparent dry matter, as well as the relative dry matter, are a linear function of the gel length. In processed gels, however, only the apparent gel concentration increases linearly with the gel length, whereas the relative dry matter increases linearly with the square root of the gel length. The %T (content in polyacrylamide) was calculated from the apparent dry matter. The gel gradients used were found to be linear with respect to %T. Six different calibration proteins were run and the…
