Semantic inhibition and dementia severity in Alzheimer’s disease
2019
Semantic inhibition is often found to be impaired in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The sentence completion task (Hayling test) was used to investigate whether it would be useful for differentiating mild AD from moderate AD. Method: Latency responses and error scores in the automatic and inhibition parts of the test were registered in these two groups of patients and in a group of healthy older participants. The types of errors were also analysed. Group differences were analysed by ANOVA. In addition, relationships with other neuropsychological tests were reported. Results: Participants with moderate AD performed worse than controls in both the automatic and inhibition sections, whereas particip…
Measurement of the spin-dependent structure function g1(x) of the deuteron
1993
We report on the first measurement of the spin-dependent structure function g1d of the deuteron in the deep inelastic scattering of polarised muons off polarised deuterons, in the kinematical range 0.006<x<0.6, 1 GeV2<Q2<30 GeV2. The first moment, Γ1d=sh{phonetic}01 g1d dx=0.023±0.020 (stat.) ± 0.015 (syst.), is smaller than the prediction of the Ellis-Jaffe sum rules. Using earlier measurements of g1p, we infer the first moment of the spin-dependent neutron structure function g1n. The difference Γ1p-Γ1n=0.20 ±0.05 (stat.) ± 0.04 (syst.) agrees with the prediction of the Bjorken sum rule, Γ1p-Γ1n=0.191 ±0.002.

Glycaemic variability (measured by 48h continous glucose monitoring) in subjects with metabolic syndrome, with ot withoout diabetes,is indipendently …
2007
Postprandial hyperglycaemia induces endothelial dysfunction thus contributing to the appearance of atherosclerotic lesions and to the high cardiovascular risk of diabetic subjects. Subjects who develop diabetes have an increased cardiovascular risk even before the appearance of diabetes. Insulin resistant subjects with metabolic syndrome (MS) are at both high cardiovascular and diabetes risk and it cannot be excluded that higher postprandial glycaemic excursions might induce endothelial dysfunction in this condition. Furthermore, adipose tissue is known to release factors (adipokines) that are able to influence both insulin sensitivity and endothelial function. The glycaemic variability is …
Inter- and Intraobserver Variation in the Assessment of Preoperative Colostograms in Male Anorectal Malformations: An ARM-Net Consortium Survey
2020
Aim:Male patients with anorectal malformations (ARM) are classified according to presence and level of the recto-urinary fistula. This is traditionally established by a preoperative high-pressure distal colostogram that may be variably interpreted by different surgeons. The aim of this study was to evaluate the inter- and intraobserver variation in the assessment by pediatric surgeons of preoperative colostograms with respect to the level of the recto-urinary fistula. Materials and Methods:Sixteen pediatric surgeons from 14 European centers belonging to the ARM-Net Consortium twice scored 130 images of distal colostograms taken in sagittal projection at a median age of 66 days of life (rang…
B‐DNA structure and stability: the role of nucleotide composition and order
2022
Abstract We have quantum chemically analyzed the influence of nucleotide composition and sequence (that is, order) on the stability of double‐stranded B‐DNA triplets in aqueous solution. To this end, we have investigated the structure and bonding of all 32 possible DNA duplexes with Watson–Crick base pairing, using dispersion‐corrected DFT at the BLYP‐D3(BJ)/TZ2P level and COSMO for simulating aqueous solvation. We find enhanced stabilities for duplexes possessing a higher GC base pair content. Our activation strain analyses unexpectedly identify the loss of stacking interactions within individual strands as a destabilizing factor in the duplex formation, in addition to the better‐known eff…
Estudio de funciones con geogebra
2012
Testing the Sobolev property with a single test plan
2020
We prove that in a vast class of metric measure spaces (namely, those whose associated Sobolev space is separable) the following property holds: a single test plan can be used to recover the minimal weak upper gradient of any Sobolev function. This means that, in order to identify which are the exceptional curves in the weak upper gradient inequality, it suffices to consider the negligible sets of a suitable Borel measure on curves, rather than the ones of the $p$-modulus. Moreover, on $\sf RCD$ spaces we can improve our result, showing that the test plan can be also chosen to be concentrated on an equi-Lipschitz family of curves.
Monotonicity Formulas for Harmonic Functions in RCD(0,N) Spaces
2023
We generalize to the RCD(0,N) setting a family of monotonicity formulas by Colding and Minicozzi for positive harmonic functions in Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. Rigidity and almost rigidity statements are also proven, the second appearing to be new even in the smooth setting. Motivated by the recent work in Agostiniani et al. (Invent. Math. 222(3):1033–1101, 2020), we also introduce the notion of electrostatic potential in RCD spaces, which also satisfies our monotonicity formulas. Our arguments are mainly based on new estimates for harmonic functions in RCD(K,N) spaces and on a new functional version of the ‘(almost) outer volume cone implies (almost) outer metric…
