A Quantitative Model for Alkane Nucleophilicity Based on C−H Bond Structural/Topological Descriptors
2020
A first quantitative model for calculating the nucleophilicity of alkanes is described. A statistical treatment was applied to the analysis of the reactivity of 29 different alkane C−H bonds towards in situ generated metal carbene electrophiles. The correlation of the recently reported experimental reactivity with two different sets of descriptors comprising a total of 86 parameters was studied, resulting in the quantitative descriptor‐based alkane nucleophilicity (QDEAN) model. This model consists of an equation with only six structural/topological descriptors, and reproduces the relative reactivity of the alkane C−H bonds. This reactivity can be calculated from parameters emerging from th…
Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods. Experimental research as a means for the innovation of already existing products: reporting of a type case.
2023
Innovation and the creation of new products in a company, or in a food industry, is an expensive process and requires profound transformations of the production processes. For this reason, the governance of some businesses often gives up on the idea of innovating, especially if some of their products, driving the market, can ensure short and medium-term earnings security. It is also quite well known, however, that the long-term solidity of a company is ensured only by innovation: mediating between these two possibilities is very difficult but one sustainable possibility, today, may consist in functionalizing already existing food products, adding, in the industrial manufacturing process, bi…
DFT studies of COOH tip-functionalized zigzag and armchair single wall carbon nanotubes
2011
Structure and energy calculations of pristine and COOH-modified model single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) of different length were performed at B3LYP/6-31G* level of theory. From 1 to 9 COOH groups were added at the end of the nanotube. The differences in structure and energetics of partially and fully functionalized SWCNTs at one end of the nanotube are observed. Up to nine COOH groups could be added at one end of (9,0) zigzag SWCNT in case of full functionalization. However, for (5,5) armchair SWCNT, the full functionalization was impossible due to steric crowding and rim deformation. The dependence of substituent attachment energy on the number of substituents at the carbon nanotube ri…
Toxicological assessment of mesoporous silica particles in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans
2018
[EN] Here we report the toxicological evaluation of mesoporous silica particles (MSPs) in the nematode C. elegans. Specifically, we have investigated the effect of bare micro- (M0) and nano-sized (N0) MSPs, and their corresponding functionalized particles with a starch derivative (Glu-N) (M1 and N1, respectively) on C. elegans ageing parameters. The toxicity of MSPs, their impact on C. elegans lifespan, movement capacity, progeny and ability to survive upon exposure to acute oxidative stress were assessed. This study demonstrated that both size particles assayed (M0 and N0), labeled with rhodamine and monitored through fluorescence microscopy, are ingested by the nematode. Moreover, toxicit…

A redox-sensitive nanofluidic diode based on nicotinamide-modified asymmetric nanopores
2017
[EN] We demonstrate a redox-sensitive nanofluidic diode whose ion rectification is modulated by the oxidation and reduction of chemical moieties incorporated on its surface. To achieve this goal, we have first synthesized the chemical compounds 1-(4-aminobutyl)-3-carbamoylpyridin-1-ium (Nic-BuNH2) and 3-carbamoyl-1-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)pyridinium (Nic-DNP). Then, the surface of track-etched single asymmetric nanopores is decorated with the redox-sensitive Nic-BuNH2 and Nic-DNP molecules using carbodiimide coupling chemistry and Zincke reaction, respectively. The success of the modification reactions is monitored through the changes in the current¿voltage (I¿V) curves prior to and after pore f…
Technological innovation around protein and cell biochip for diagnosis: a translational research from nanoworld to patient
2009
International audience; A great challenge in biosensors and diagnosis devices relies on the way to reconstitute relevant biological mechanisms on surface of the biochips and which analytical tools are convenient to provide accurate and rapid information on the structures and function of molecules attached to this surface. A better control in the realization of biochips can be obtained in combining different complementary approaches while always keeping in mind the biological key point. Researches in CLIPP are focused towards this objective. Conception, realization and characterization of protein and cell chips are presented. We detail different strategies of materials engineering1,2,3, chem…
DFT calculations of structures, 13C NMR chemical shifts, and Raman RBM mode of simple models of small‐diameter zigzag (4,0) carboxylated single‐walle…
2012
Linearly conjugated benzene rings (acenes), belt‐shaped molecules (cyclic acenes), and models of single‐walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with one carboxylic group at the open end were fully optimized at the B3LYP/6‐31G* level of theory. These models were selected to obtain some insight into the nuclear isotropic changes resulting from systematically increasing the basic building units of open‐tip‐monocarboxylated SWCNTs. In addition, the position of radial breathing mode (RBM), empirically correlated with the SWCNT diameter, was directly related with the radius of model cyclic acene rings. A regular convergence of selected structural, NMR, and Raman parameters with the molecular system size…
An Atom-Economical Approach to Functionalized Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes: Reaction with Disulfides
2013
Owing to their unique structure, thermal stability, and mechanical and electronic properties, single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) have been a subject of continuous and intense interest. However, various applications in many fields, such as molecular electronics, solar cells, and nanomedicine, often require the development of reproducible protocols for the chemical modification of SWCNTs. In fact, one of the main drawbacks of the use of SWCNTs is their tendency to aggregate and intrinsic poor solubility, which prevent their manipulation and limit their potential. To date, several methods have been described for the chemical functionalization of SWCNTs; however, new versatile and reliable…
Palladium-catalyzed heteroaryl thioethers synthesis overcoming palladium dithiolate resting states inertness: Practical road to sulfones and NH-sulfo…
2018
International audience; We provide efficient synthetic access to heteroaryl sulfones in two-steps using a simple palladium-1,1'-bis [(diphenyl)phosphanyl]ferrocene catalyst to form in high yields variously functionalized heteroaromatic thioethers. Pyridinyl-containing substrates can be subsequently selectively oxidized into sulfones and NH-sulfoximines by using very mild oxidation conditions with a high functional group tolerance. In the palladium catalyzed C-S coupling of heteroaromatic thiols, reactivity limitation is attached with electron-deficient thiols. We show that this limitation can be resolved by the successful use of 2-bromoheteroarenes in the C-S coupling. We established herein…
