Learning Pros and Cons of Model-Driven Development in a Practical Teaching Experience

2016

Current teaching guides on Software Engineering degree focus mainly on teaching programming languages from the first courses. Conceptual modeling is a topic that is only taught in last courses, like master courses. At that point, many students do not see the usefulness of conceptual modeling and most of them have difficulty to reach the level of abstraction needed to work with them. In order to make the learning of conceptual modeling more attractive, we have conducted an experience where students compare a traditional development versus a development using conceptual models through a Model-Driven Development (MDD) method. This way, students can check on their own pros and cons of working w…

Seesaw Majoron Model of Neutrino Mass and Novel Signals in Higgs Boson Production at LEP

1998

We perform a careful study of the neutral scalar sector of a model which includes a singlet, a doublet, and a triplet scalar field under $SU(2)$. This model is motivated by neutrino physics, since it is simply the most general version of the seesaw model of neutrino mass generation through spontaneous violation of lepton number. The neutral Higgs sector contains three CP-even and one massive CP-odd Higgs boson $A$, in addition to the massless CP-odd majoron $J$. The weakly interacting majoron remains massless if the breaking of lepton number symmetry is purely spontaneous. We show that the massive CP-odd Higgs boson may invisibly decay to three majorons, as well as to a CP-even Higgs $H$ bo…

Synthesis of site-heterologous haptens for high-affinity anti-pyraclostrobin antibody generation.

2011

The design and synthesis of functional chemical derivatives of small organic molecules is usually a key step for the intricate production of a variety of bioconjugates. In this respect, the derivatization site at which the spacer arm is introduced in immunizing conjugates constitutes a highly critical parameter for the generation of high-affinity and selective antibodies. However, due to the usual complexity of the required synthetic procedures, the appropriate comparison of alternative tethering positions has often been neglected. In the present study, meticulous strategies were followed to prepare synthetic derivatives of pyraclostrobin with the same linkers located at diverse rationally-…

Random walks and random numbers from supercontinuum generation

2012

International audience; We report a numerical study showing how the random intensity and phase fluctuations across the bandwidth of a broadband optical supercontinuum can be interpreted in terms of the random processes of random walks and L´evy flights. We also describe how the intensity fluctuations can be applied to physical random number generation. We conclude that the optical supercontinuum provides a highly versatile means of studying and generating a wide class of random processes at optical wavelengths.

The Fluorite/Water Interfaces: Structure and Spectroscopy from First Principles Simulations

2014

Despite its relevance to industrial, environmental and medical application, the fluorite/water interface still lacks a microscopic/atomistic characterization. In this contribution we provide the first atomistic description of such interface using first principles molecular dynamics simulations. Our models, which explore a wide range of pH, are able to provide a rational of the recent vibrational spectroscopy experiments. In particular we find that at neutral pH the water at the interface is disordered, in agreement with the experimental data, and explaining why no Vibrational Sum Frequency Generation (VSFG) signal is recorded. At high pH, OH groups which localize at the interface are respon…

Novel second-order nonlinear optical polymer materials containing indandione derivativatives as a chromophore

2006

Second order non linear optical (NLO) properties of sPMMA based host-guest systems containing eight dimethylaminobenzylidene -1, 3 - indandione (DMABI) related chromophores have been investigated by means of quantum chemical calculations and SHG experimental characterization. Ab initio calculations with basis set 6-31G were used for molecular geometry determination as well as in the calculations of molecular hyperpolarizability by FF approach. Influence of the chromophore concentration on the host-guest film NLO performance was obtained by SHG Maker fringe experiments. The highest value of d53233 =80 pm/V (frequency corrected value d033 =12 pm/V) at chromophore concentration 15 %wt have bee…

Second harmonic generation and beam cleaning in optically poled multimode graded-index fibers

2017

Recent experimental results have confirmed that nonlinear effects in multimode graded-index (MM-GRIN) fibers lead to a wealth of observable spatiotemporal effects. In spite of the large number of modes supported by the fiber, by increasing the input power the transverse profile evolves in a clean bell-shaped beam [1, 2]. Next, the input laser line experiences a strong spectral broadening and Geometric Parametric Instability (GPl) peaks are observed [3].
