Photo)catalytic propylene hydration to 2-propanol and glycerol dehydration to acrolein reactions were carried out by using Keggin heteropolyacids (HPAs) supported on TiO2. Binary materials have been prepared by impregnation of H3PW12O40, H3PMo12O40 and H4SiW12O40, on TiO2 Evonik P25. Moreover, a binary material consisting of H4SiW12O40 and TiO2 was prepared via a hydrothermal treatment and tested for the same reactions. Transcriptional analysis of pha genes in pseudomonas mediterranea CFBP 5447 grown on glycerol

We analysed the draft genome sequence of Pseudomonas mediterranea CFBP 5447 in order to identify firstly the central metabolic pathways that convert fatty acids or carbohydrate intermediates into mcl-PHA and secondly the genes involved in glycerol metabolism (glpF, glpK, glpD, glpR). Absence of the glpF gene, which codifies for the "glycerol uptake facilitator protein", was highlighted. In order to understand the expression of the pha gene cluster, we investigated the promoter activity of phaC1, phaC2, phaZ, phaD and phaI genes. A facile way to synthesize noble metal free TiO2 based catalysts for glycerol photoreforming

In this work anaerobic heterogeneous photocatalytic solar/UV light reforming of glycerol in aqueous media was performed with Pt-photodeposition and noble metal free modified TiO2 photocatalysts prepared through ball milling, a very simple and cheap coupled catalyst preparation method. Different amounts of Cu2O or 3% CuO were loaded on TiO2 using ball milling and during each run glycerol conversion, hydrogen and CO2 formed in the gas phase and 1,3-dihydroxyacetone (DHA) and glyceraldehyde (GA) in the liquid phase were determined. Rapid Assessment of Gray Mold (Botrytis cinerea) Infection in Grapes with a Biosensor System

Abstract: Botrytis cinerea is the causative agent of gray mold disease, which causes considerable economic losses to winemakers. The extent of gray mold infection of winegrapes is commonly visually estimated, a method that is prone to assessor bias. Here, we used rapid and simple enzyme-based screening consisting of carbon-electrode, screen-printed amperometric biosensors to estimate gluconic acid and glycerol concentration in winegrapes infected with different degrees of B. cinerea.
