Personalized Symptom Goals and Patient Global Impression on Clinical Changes in Advanced Cancer Patients.
2018
Abstract Background The aim of this study was to assess the patients’ global impression (PGI) after symptom management, as well as the achievement of personalized symptom goals (PSG). The secondary outcome was to assess related factors. Subjects, Materials, and Methods Advanced cancer patients admitted to palliative care units rated symptom intensity by using the Edmonton Symptom Assessment Score (ESAS) at admission and then after 1 week. For each symptom, patient-reported PGI and PSG, as well as the rate of PSG response, were evaluated. Results Eight hundred seventy-six patients were taken into consideration for this study. A mean of 1.71–2.16 points was necessary to perceive a bit better …

Background: We aimed to investigate associations of unclean cooking fuels with depression and anxiety symptoms in a large sample of adults aged ≥65 years from six low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Personal goals and changes in life-space mobility among older people
2015
Abstract Objective Life-space mobility – the spatial extent of mobility in daily life – is associated with quality of life and physical functioning but may also be influenced by future orientation expressed in personal goals. The aim of this study was to explore how different personal goals predict changes in older people's life-space mobility. Methods This prospective cohort study with a 2-year follow-up included 824 community-dwelling people aged 75 to 90 years from the municipalities of Jyvaskyla and Muurame in Central Finland. As part of the Life-Space Mobility in Old Age study (LISPE), which was conducted between 2012 and 2014, the participants responded to the Life-Space Assessment an…
Meta-Analysis of Articles Evaluating Routine Intraocular Pressure Control in Monotherapy in the United States and Germany
2009
Pur P ose . To evaluate routine intraocular pressure (IOP) control in monotherapy patients in the United States and Germany. Methods . Meta-analysis of published articles. We included articles that were prospective studies of ocular hypotensive therapies that measured an unaltered (visit 1) IOP on monotherapy before enrolling into a clinical trial. results . This meta-analysis included 5 studies with 7913 patients, of whom 3245 were from the United States (n=1) and 4668 were from Germany (n=4). In the United States, 2939 patients (91%), and in Germany, 4059 patients (87%), had glaucoma (p<0.0001). Of these, all the US patients (100%) and 2694 (58%) of those from Germany were treated with mo…
Global, regional, and national progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 3.2 for neonatal and child health: all-cause and cause-specific mortalit…
2021
Background: Sustainable Development Goal 3.2 has targeted elimination of preventable child mortality, reduction of neonatal death to less than 12 per 1000 livebirths, and reduction of death of children younger than 5 years to less than 25 per 1000 livebirths, for each country by 2030. To understand current rates, recent trends, and potential trajectories of child mortality for the next decade, we present the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 findings for all-cause mortality and cause-specific mortality in children younger than 5 years of age, with multiple scenarios for child mortality in 2030 that include the consideration of potential effects of COVID-…
Predicting athletes’ functional and dysfunctional emotions: The role of the motivational climate and motivation regulations
2016
This study examined the relationships between perceptions of the motivational climate, motivation regulations, and the intensity and functionality levels of athletes' pleasant and unpleasant emotional states. Specifically, we examined the hypothesised mediational role of motivation regulations in the climate-emotion relationship. We also tested a sequence in which emotions were assumed to be predicted by the motivational climate dimensions and then served as antecedents to variability in motivation regulations. Participants (N = 494) completed a multi-section questionnaire assessing targeted variables. Structural equation modelling (SEM) revealed that a perceived task-involving climate was …

Association between alcoholism and symptom expression, patient symptom goals, and clinical response in advanced cancer patients
2019
Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the influence of alcoholism on symptom expression, personalized symptom goal (PSG) and patient goal response (PGR), and patient global impression (PGI) in advanced cancer patients. Methods: This was a secondary analysis of an international multicenter study. Advanced cancer patients who had a history of alcohol dependence positive, according to CAGE (cut down, annoy, guilt, eye-opener), were selected. Thirty patients (3.45%) were CAGE-positive. This sample was matched with 30 patients with similar characteristics who were CAGE-negative. Patients rated symptom intensity by using the Edmonton Symptom Assessment Score (ESAS) at admission (T0) and the…
FORMULATIONS OF THE MAIN GOAL IN LIFE: A QUALITATIVE CONTENT ANALYSIS

Humanistic tradition emphasizes the main goal in life as something towards which people determine themselves.
