Oxygen-assisted hydroxymatairesinol dehydrogenation: a selective secondary-alcohol oxidation over a gold catalyst.

2013

Selective dehydrogenation of the biomass-derived lignan hydroxymatairesinol (HMR) to oxomatairesinol (oxoMAT) was studied over an Au/Al(2)O(3) catalyst. The reaction was carried out in a semi-batch glass reactor at 343 K under two different gas atmospheres, namely produced through synthetic air or nitrogen. The studied reaction is, in fact, an example of secondary-alcohol oxidation over an Au catalyst. Thus, the investigated reaction mechanism of HMR oxidative dehydrogenation is useful for the fundamental understanding of other secondary-alcohol dehydrogenation over Au surfaces. To investigate the elementary catalytic steps ruling both oxygen-free- and oxygen-assisted dehydrogenation of HMR…

Comparative evaluation of antibacterial effect of nanoparticles and lasers against Endodontic Microbiota: An in vitro study

2018

Background Present study was conducted with the aim of evaluating antimicrobial efficacy of silver (AgNP) and gold nanoparticles (AuNP) with and without Nd: YAG laser (L) irradiation against experimentally inoculated Enterococcus faecalis in infected human root dentin. Material and Methods 120 extracted single rooted human teeth were prepared and inoculated with E. faecalis for 24 hrs. The teeth were then randomly divided into 4 experimental group: AgNPs group: irrigation for 3minutes with 50 μl of 100 ppm, the AuNPs group: irrigation with 50 μl of 100 ppm, the AgNPs & Nd: YAG lasers group: irrigation with 50 μl of 100 ppm + irradiation with 1.5W laser for 60 seconds, the AuNPs & Nd: YAG la…

Human primary macrophages scavenge AuNPs and eliminate it through exosomes. A natural shuttling for nanomaterials.

2018

Abstract The use of nanomaterials is increasing but the real risk associated with their use in humans has to be defined. In fact, nanomaterials tend to accumulate in organs over a long period of time and are slowly degraded or eliminated by the body. Exosomes are nanovesicles actively shuttle molecules, including chemical products and metals, through the body. Macrophages scavenge the body from both organic and inorganic substances, and they use to release high amounts of exosomes. We hypothesized that macrophages may have a role in eliminating nanomaterials through their exosomes. We treated human primary macrophages with 20 nm gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), analyzing the presence of AuNPs in…

"There Is No Book, No Matter How Bad It Is, That Does Not Have Something Good in It": The Circulation of the Novels by Sebastiano Erizzo and Niccolò …

2019

This paper provides a first consideration of the dissemination and impact of the novels by Sebastiano Erizzo and Niccolò Granucci in the Spanish Golden Age, focusing on two of their main works, Le sei giornate (1567) and La piacevol notte et lieto giorno (1574), respectively. The characteristics of the identified copies, some coincidences with texts by Lope and Cervantes, and the information collected on the circulation of these two works, whose focus on morality may have favoured their dissemination, lead to the suggestion that their novels had a certain influence on Spanish literature. These circumstances should encourage Hispanists to turn their eyes towards the novels of Niccolò Granucc…

Galactosylated Polymer/Gold Nanorods Nanocomposites for Sustained and Pulsed Chemo-Photothermal Treatments of Hepatocarcinoma

2022

In this paper, we propose a rational design of a hybrid nanosystem capable of locally delivering a high amount of hydrophobic anticancer drugs (sorafenib or lenvatinib) and heat (hyperthermia) in a remote-controlled manner. We combined in a unique nanosystem the excellent NIR photothermal conversion of gold nanorods (AuNRs) with the ability of a specially designed galactosylated amphiphilic graft copolymer (PHEA-g-BIB-pButMA-g-PEG-GAL) able to recognize hepatic cells overexpressing the asialoglycoprotein receptor (ASGPR) on their membranes, thus giving rise to a smart composite nanosystem for the NIR-triggered chemo-phototherapy of hepatocarcinoma. In order to allow the internalization of A…

We analyze the precious jewels listed in the Branciforti inventories. Various types of "giogali" emerge with which the protagonists of the important family were adorned, from Octavius to Anthony, Hercules and Joseph I, sometimes also identifiable in their portraits, kept by their heirs.
