Bioengineered human bone tissue using autogenous osteoblasts cultured on different biomatrices

2003

Surgical treatment of critical-size posttraumatic bone defects is still a challenging problem, even in modern bone and joint surgery. Progress in cellular and molecular biology during the last decade now permits novel approaches in bone engineering. Recent conceptual and technical advances have enabled the use of mitotically expanded, bone-derived cells as a therapeutic approach for tissue repair. Using three different tissue carrier systems, we successfully cultivated human osteoblasts in a newly developed perfusion chamber. We studied cell proliferation and the expression of osteocalcin, osteopontin, bone morphogenetic protein-2A, alkaline phosphatase, and vascular endothelial growth fact…

Amphiphilic inulin graft co-polymers as self assembling micelles for doxorubicin delivery

2020

This paper reports the synthesis and characterization of a new amphiphilic inulin graft copolymer able to self-assemble in water into a micelle type structure and to deliver the anticancer model drug doxorubicin. For this aim, inulin was chemically modified in the side chain with primary amine groups (INU-EDA) and these were used as reactive moieties for the conjugation of poly ethylene glycol 2000 and succinyl-ceramide. The CMC of obtained amphiphilic inulin derivatives (INU-ceramide and INU-ceramide-PEG2000) was measured by means of fluorescence analysis using pyrene as the fluorescent probe. The obtained micelles were characterized by DLS and AFM analysis and the ability to release the l…

Histological and histomorphometric study using an ultrasonic crestal sinus grafting procedure: a multicenter case study

2016

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a hydrodynamic ultrasonic driven transcrestal sinus grafting procedure (Intralift ®, Acteon Company, Bordeaux, France) and the use of a bovine high temperature sintered grafting material in sinus sites with less than 5 mm remaining bone height with no additional autogenous bone in order to create a sufficient recipient site for implants. Material and Methods: 12 patients (16 sinus) in this multicenter case study were included. Using a crestal approach, bone under the sinus was prepared with ultrasonic tips until the Schneiderian membrane was reached. With a trumpet shaped instrument, the Schneiderian membrane was elevated. In…

Autogenous calvarium bone grafting as a treatment for severe bone resorption in the upper maxilla : a case report

2008

Atrophic maxilla rehabilitation has been the subject of several studies for decades; despite this, there are still many different therapeutic choices for the best way to treat maxillary resorption in order to enable implant placement and integration. These possibilities include the optimal use of remaining bone structures, such as the pterygoid processes or zygomatic arch, which involves using zygomaticus and pterygoid implants in combination with standard implants placed in the residual bone; alternatively, regenerative techniques, alveolar bone expansion/distraction or bone grafting techniques may be used. Severe maxillary atrophy has a multifactorial aetiology; the most important factors…

Automated Weaning from Mechanical Ventilation after Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting

2017

Background The discontinuation of mechanical ventilation after coronary surgery may prolong and significantly increase the load on intensive care unit personnel. We hypothesized that automated mode using INTELLiVENT-ASV can decrease duration of postoperative mechanical ventilation, reduce workload on medical staff, and provide safe ventilation after off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCAB). The primary endpoint of our study was to assess the duration of postoperative mechanical ventilation during different modes of weaning from respiratory support (RS) after OPCAB. The secondary endpoint was to assess safety of the automated weaning mode and the number of manual interventions to the…

Co-administration of human MSC overexpressing HIF-1α increases human CD34+ cell engraftment in vivo

2021

Abstract Background Poor graft function or graft failure after allogeneic stem cell transplantation is an unmet medical need, in which mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) constitute an attractive potential therapeutic approach. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) overexpression in MSC (HIF-MSC) potentiates the angiogenic and immunomodulatory properties of these cells, so we hypothesized that co-transplantation of MSC-HIF with CD34+ human cord blood cells would also enhance hematopoietic stem cell engraftment and function both in vitro and in vivo. Methods Human MSC were obtained from dental pulp. Lentiviral overexpression of HIF-1α was performed transducing cells with pWPI-green fluorescent pr…

The Artek cup for total hip replacement of dysplastic hip joints.

2003

One specific difficulty in total hip replacement for developmental dysplasia of the hip is a shallow acetabulum with a short anteroposterior diameter. In a prospective cohort study we investigated the short-term results of the Artek cup, designed with a shallow outline and a height-reduced metal inlay for a large size 38 mm metal head, in a group of female patients with mild dysplasia of the hip.Fourteen consecutive patients with 17 dysplastic hip joints were included in the study. Their average age was 42 years. Fourteen hips had dysplasia Crowe grade I; 3 hips had dysplasia Crowe grade II. The femoral head centre was localized according to Pagnano in zone 1 in 3 cases, in zone 3 in 6 case…

Millennials. La nuova scena della grafica italiana

2015

2016

Zinātniskās ilustrācijas izveide ir ļoti laikietilpīgs process, prasa īpaši niansētu detaļu izstrādes pieeju, un vienlaicīgi rada kopējo stāstu par attēlojamo subjektu. Tās izstrāde, balstoties uz digitālās ilustrēšanas metodi, ietver uzskatāmi detalizētākas ilustrācijas izstrādes iespēju, kamēr tradicionālā metode ietver ļoti daudz iztrūkumus darba procesa ātrākai un vizuāli baudāmāka izveidei. Mūsdienu digitālās ēras aizsākumu pamatā ir spēja rediģēt iespējamos radušos ilustrācijas konfliktus daudz ātrāk, tādējādi paverot iespēju daudz efektīgākai sadarbībai ilustrātora un zinātnieka starpā gan precizitātes, gan atainotā subjekta vizuālā kopskata ziņā. Darba mērķis ir izveidot mikroorgani…
