Photocurrent generation in Graphene Field Effect Transistors (GFETs)
2016
In this work, we focused on the study of Graphene Field Effect Transistors (GFETs) photoelectrical response due to the combination of photovoltaic and photo-thermoelectric effects. The technological steps for the transistors fabrication together with their electro-optic response will be presented. Measurements were performed by using a 405 nm laser diode with AM modulation at 1.33 KHz shined onto the sample under test. GFETs electrical output signals were measured by using a lock-in amplifier synchronized to the same reference frequency of the laser driver. This gave us the possibility to evaluate the optical characteristics as a function of both the incident laser power and the static pola…
Photoelectrical response of Graphene Field Effect Transistors (GFETs)
2016
In this work, we present Graphene Field Effect Transistors (GFETs) with photoelectrical response due to the photovoltaiceffect. Our final aim is to use a GFET to down convert an optical to a radiofrequency signal. The technological steps used for the devices fabrication as well as the photoelectrical characterization will be reported. Photoelectrical measurements were performed by using a 405 nm laser diode source, whose output beam was pulse amplitude-modulated at 1.33 kHz by means of a laser driver. The electrical signal out of the GFETs (in a common source amplifier configuration) was measured using a lock-in amplifier synchronized to the same reference frequency of the laser driver. Thi…
Novel diamond X-ray detectors with patterned reduced graphene oxide contacts
2015
A novel kind of detector based on polycrystalline grade diamond substrate and Reduced Graphene Oxide (RGO) contacts is presented. This detector combines some of the good qualities of diamond (i.e. radiation hardness and almost unique combination of electric, thermal and optical properties) with low- Z contacts. This characteristic together with the possibility of patterning the electrodes with standard lithographic techniques, make this detector particularly suitable for X-ray beam monitors where the intensity and the position of the photon beam needs to be measured with minimal effect on the beam itself (i.e. in-line and highly transmissive measurement). The steps needed to realize our nov…
DESIGN PER. Time for conclusions / DESIGN PER. Un bilancio
2009
On a class of generalised Schmidt groups
2015
In this paper families of non-nilpotent subgroups covering the non-nilpotent part of a finite group are considered. An A 5 -free group possessing one of these families is soluble, and soluble groups with this property have Fitting length at most three. A bound on the number of primes dividing the order of the group is also obtained.
2013
Caricature as a creative work for its creator and viewer / Karikatūra kaip kūrybinis darbas jo kūrėjui ir suvokėjui
2012
Nowadays we can witness a tendency where the visual replaces the verbal. Humour experiences the same: its visual expression – caricature – is a visual metaphor that already has taken its remarkable place in the field of humour. Caricatures have become a distorting mirror that show deformed but still fairly presented reality. Humour is important part of our everyday life's communication and it covers many spheres of people's life, even including marketing, politics, work relationships, etc. That is why caricatures became a remarkable tool, for example, in political contentions. This article will show what it takes to create this distorting mirror from one side and to see a reflection in it a…
SIMULATING SPIN MODELS ON GPU: A TOUR
2012
The use of graphics processing units (GPUs) in scientific computing has gathered considerable momentum in the past five years. While GPUs in general promise high performance and excellent performance per Watt ratios, not every class of problems is equally well suitable for exploiting the massively parallel architecture they provide. Lattice spin models appear to be prototypic examples of problems suitable for this architecture, at least as long as local update algorithms are employed. In this review, I summarize our recent experience with the simulation of a wide range of spin models on GPU employing an equally wide range of update algorithms, ranging from Metropolis and heat bath updates,…
Computer-aided detection of cerebral microbleeds in susceptibility-weighted imaging.
2014
Susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) is recognized as the preferred MRI technique for visualizing cerebral vasculature and related pathologies such as cerebral microbleeds (CMBs). Manual identification of CMBs is time-consuming, has limited reliability and reproducibility, and is prone to misinterpretation. In this paper, a novel computer-aided microbleed detection technique based on machine learning is presented: First, spherical-like objects (potential CMB candidates) with their corresponding bounding boxes were detected using a novel multi-scale Laplacian of Gaussian technique. A set of robust 3-dimensional Radon- and Hessian-based shape descriptors within each bounding box were then ex…
