Molecular Dynamic Simulation on Polyamide6/Graphene nano-layers nanocomposites

In this work results obtained from Molecular Dynamic Simulation (MDS) on Polyamide 6 (PA6) chains in graphene containing nanocomposites are presented. Through detailed MDS, the interface of complex nanocomposites systems can be fully characterized, furthermore different physical properties, such as density, end-to-end distance , and average radius of gyration of polymers chains can be predicted. This issue is useful for the design of highly value-added nanocomposites and the optimization of their production process, by defining transformation steps and status variables (temperature, time and pressure), that can also help the industrial production.
Electroburning of few-layer graphene flakes, epitaxial graphene, and turbostratic graphene discs in air and under vacuum

Graphene-based electrodes are very promising for molecular electronics and spintronics. Here we report a systematic characterization of the electroburning (EB) process, leading to the formation of nanometer-spaced gaps, on different types of few-layer graphene (namely mechanically exfoliated graphene on SiO2, graphene epitaxially grown on the C-face of SiC and turbostratic graphene discs deposited on SiO2) under air and vacuum conditions. The EB process is found to depend on both the graphene type and on the ambient conditions. Real-Time Monocular Segmentation and Pose Tracking of Multiple Objects

We present a real-time system capable of segmenting multiple 3D objects and tracking their pose using a single RGB camera, based on prior shape knowledge. The proposed method uses twist-coordinates for pose parametrization and a pixel-wise second-order optimization approach which lead to major improvements in terms of tracking robustness, especially in cases of fast motion and scale changes, compared to previous region-based approaches. Our implementation runs at about 50–100 Hz on a commodity laptop when tracking a single object without relying on GPGPU computations. The Many Faces of a Translation

First-order translations have recently been characterized as the maps computed by aperiodic single-valued nondeterministic finite transducers (NFTs). It is shown here that this characterization lifts to "V-translations" and "V-single-valued-NFTs", where V is an arbitrary monoid pseudovariety. More strikingly, 2-way V-machines are introduced, and the following three models are shown exactly equivalent to Eilenberg's classical notion of a bimachine when V is a group variety or when V is the variety of aperiodic monoids: V-translations, V-single-valued-NFTs and 2-way V-transducers.

Abstract Generalizing a classical result of Schutzenberger to free partially commutative monoids, we prove that the family of star-free trace languages coincides with the family of aperiodic trace languages.
Performances and morphology of polyamide/carbonaceous structures based fibers

In this work the influence of carbonaceous particles with different particle sizes and shapes on the morphology and mechanical performances of polyamide (PA) based fibers was investigated. Graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) are compared with spherical and rod-like carbon fillers such as carbon black (CB) and multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT). The different morphologies of the particles control their dispersion and their alignment in PA fibers upon elongational flow action and play a key role in structure-property relationships.
Accelerating collision detection for large-scale crowd simulation on multi-core and many-core architectures

The computing capabilities of current multi-core and many-core architectures have been used in crowd simulations for both enhancing crowd rendering and simulating continuum crowds. However, improving the scalability of crowd simulation systems by exploiting the inherent parallelism of these architectures is still an open issue. Women remained invisible in health sciences until the late twentieth century because they were not included in the cohorts used in researched studies. Thanks to the work done by different groups of feminist researchers, we were able to visualise the need to change those paradigms. But while gender perspectives have allowed us to research new aspects of science, gender has sometimes contributed to rendering female-specific health issues as invisible. For women to be treated equally, their differences have to be recognised, precisely so that the equal right of both sexes to quality of life can be defended. Better access to on-line information graphics is a pressing need for people who are blind or have severe vision impairment. We present a new model for accessible presentation of on-line information graphics and demonstrate its use for presenting floor plans. While floor plans are increasingly provided on-line, people who are blind are at best provided with only a high-level textual description. This makes it difficult for them to understand the spatial arrangement of the objects on the floor plan. Our new approach provides users with significantly better access to such plans.
