Seepage carbonate mounds in Cenozoic sedimentary sequences from the Las Minas Basin, SE Spain
2016
Abstract A number of carbonate mounds composed of indurate, strongly folded and/or brecciated calcite and dolomite beds occur interstratified in Cenozoic sedimentary sequences from the Las Minas Basin. Part of the fabric of the rock forming the carbonate mounds is composed of laminated to banded dolostone similar to the host rock but showing contrasted lithification. Moreover, the carbonate deposits of the mounds display aggrading neomorphism of dolomite, partial replacement of dolomite by calcite, calcite cementation, and extensive silicification, locally resulting in box-work fabric. Eight main lithofacies were distinguished in the carbonate mound deposits. In some lithofacies, chert is p…
Rethinking Community Quality of Life in Latin American Countries
2017
The community is a totality which is meaningful to the people that form part of it. In this sense community is more than a geographic concentration; it is a concept that implies the inclusion of diversities and their being allowed to share within it. It is related to social support, intersubjective, participation, consensus, common beliefs, and a joint effort which aims at a major objective: intense and extensive relationships. Quality of life is a multidimensional concept (Bramston 2002) and comprises objective and subjective components (Cummins and Cahill 2000). Quality of life in the community is a specificity of quality of life in general, and community well-being is also a predictor of…
Distribution of Ground Fault Current in Substations Fed by a Combined Overhead-Cable Line
2005
When a substation is fed by a combined overhead-cable transmission line, in case of a fault to ground within the substation a consistent part of the fault current flows through the cable sheaths toward the remote source and discharges into the earth at the transition station, where cables are connected to the overhead line. This phenomenon, named "fault application transfer", may result in high ground potentials at the transition station which may cause shocks and equipment damage. In this paper a simple but accurate method on modelling a combined overhead-cable line is presented, allowing the computation of the fault current transferred at the transition station. Numerical analysis shows t…
Increasing understanding and confidence in THM simulations of engineered barrier systems
2020
Previous studies on the modelling of coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) processes in bentonite-based engineered barrier systems (EBSs) showed the sensitivity of the output quantities to changes in the input parameters. To investigate the effects of uncertainties on the modelling results, to improve the understanding of the coupled processes active in the repository near field and to gain in-depth understanding of model uncertainties of different codes, a sensitivity analysis and code comparison of EBS simulations was performed within the Task Force on Engineered Barrier Systems. The analysis included variations in material parameter values, boundary and initial conditions, considered phy…
Currents Distribution During a Fault in an MV Network: Methods and Measurements
2016
When a single line to ground fault happens on the MV side of a HV/MV system, only a small portion of the fault current is injected into the ground by the ground-grid of the faulty substation. In fact the fault current is distributed between grounding electrodes and MV cables sheaths. In systems with isolated neutral or with resonant earthing this may be sufficient to provide safety from electric shock. Experimental measurements were performed on a real MV distribution network: a real single line to ground fault was made and fault currents were measured in the faulty substation and in four neighboring substations. In this paper the problem of fault current distribution is introduced, the tes…
A Simple Method for Evaluating Ground-Fault Current Transfer at the Transition Station of a Combined Overhead-Cable Line
2008
When a substation is fed by a combined overhead-cable transmission line, a significant part of the ground fault current flows through cable sheaths and is discharged into the soil at the transition station where cables are connected to the overhead line. Such a phenomenon, known as ldquofault application transfer, rdquo may result in high ground potentials at the transition station which may cause shocks and equipment damage. The scope of this paper is to present new analytic formulas which can be used for the direct calculation of the fault current transferred at the transition station and its ground potential rise as well as the substation earth current. The proposed formulas allow evaluat…
Finite-Difference Time-Domain Simulation of Tower and Grounding Subjected to Lightning
2015
In this paper the behavior of a tower and its grounding system, subjected to a lightning, is faced. Finite difference time domain (FDTD) method has been chosen in order to study the non-linear time domain behavior of the system. The electromagnetic problem has been described by using two type of first order time derivative equations: Maxwell's equations and Telegraph equations. Aim of this work is to evaluate the possibility of a flashover between tower and power line, by considering different cases of study.
The Quest for Global Safety
2007
The authors present a systematic study on the factors that have influence on the establishment of the safety conditions ensuring the rise of Global Earthing Systems. Starting from the definition of Global Earthing System given by CENELEC Document HD 637 SI and from the results of the studies done on the last years on the interconnected earthing systems inside MV networks, the paper proposes some directions of deepening on the topic of Global Safety. Some of the themes whom the paper deals with are: the correct definition of proximity, interconnection and quasi-equipotentiality of the earth electrodes belonging to a Global Earthing System; the influence of the presence of HV/MV stations on h…
On the effects of HV/MV stations on global grounding systems
2016
The METERGLOB project has faced the issue of the identification of Global Grounding Systems. One of the main point of the problem is to define if an interconnection of single grounding systems gives place to a Global Grounding System in any condition and for every kind of ground fault. This paper focuses the attention on what happens in the case of single line to ground fault inside a HV/MV station whose ground electrode is connected to the cable' shields of the MV lines outgoing the station and supplying the secondary substations of a given area.
