Effective electrical conductivity of microstructural patterns of binary mixtures on a square lattice in the presence of nearest-neighbour interactions

Abstract The effective conductivity and percolative behaviour of microstructural patterns of binary mixtures are studied. Microstructure patterns are not entirely random, but result from the presence of attractive or repulsive interactions and thermal fluctuations. The interactions of the particles with one another lead to the formation of correlations between particle positions, while thermal fluctuations weaken these correlations. A simple lattice model is used, where each site is occupied by a single particle, and interactions can occur only between the nearest neighbours. Photocatalytic degradation of 2-propanol was carried out as a probe reaction both in gas–solid and in liquid–solid systems in the presence of TiO2 both bare and impregnated with lanthanide (Sm, Gd, Ho) bis-phthalocyanines (LnPc2) used as sensitizers. Continuous and batch photo-reactors, irradiated with an equal flux of photons, were used in gas–solid and in liquid–solid systems, respectively. Propanone and acetaldehyde were the main intermediates found in both systems during 2-propanol oxidation, whereas carbon dioxide and water were the final oxidation products exclusively in the gas–solid regime. Carbon nanohorns (CNHs) were selected as a novel catalytic platform for the design of imidazolium based hybrid materials able to promote the conversion of carbon dioxide into cyclic carbonates. Several heterogeneous catalysts were prepared using a one-step procedure based on the radical polymerization of various bis-vinylimidazolium salts in the presence of pristine CNHs. The as-synthesized materials were tested for the fixation of CO2 into epoxides. The excellent catalytic performances were evaluated in terms of turnover number and productivity. Effect of Pre-Reduction on the Properties and the Catalytic Activity of Pd/Carbon Catalysts: A Comparison with Pd/Al2O3

The effect of pre-reduction in solution with chemical reagents on the catalytic performance and catalyst properties of Pd/carbon catalysts was systematically investigated with a multitechnique approach. The results are critically discussed in comparison to those recently obtained on analogous Pd/alumina catalysts. It was proved that the Pd phase on the carbon surface is characterized by a high mobility, opposite to what occurs on alumina. As a result, the Pd particles on carbon aggregate together during pre-reduction, with a consequent decrease in available metal surface.
