The Main Controversies Over the Modernisation Process of the Ukrainian Higher Education System from the Perspective of Globalization / Główne Kontrow…

2014

Abstract The most significant process of the modern civilization advancement is globalization. The crucial tendencies of the world educational system development aim at strengthening the main role of knowledge as a component of employee workshop, often much more precious than the material part, originating from the employer. In 1991, due to globalization processes, Ukraine abandoned the Soviet higher education model, following the international scenario of the higher education development. In the last few years some propositions for reforms of the above system have appeared. The Draft Law on Higher Education approved in December 2012 has made the situation less clear. Currently, the provisi…

Decisions of higher education students according to the social environment. A conjecture based on reflexivity, biograficity and empirical research

2019

¿Conocemos a nuestros estudiantes?

2010

To focus the attention on competences means a radical change for the teaching design. It is one of the places where the most effective changes are expected. The research presented here tries to analyze the way that competences are used when describing official Master degrees. The competences of 87 Master degrees from 9 universities are analyzed. The results show that most Masters do not specify their competences. The most common ones refer to the knowledge application and that an enormous heterogeneity exists when classifying the types of competences.

2011

In today¿s knowledge society, in which university graduates are required to obtain new abilities to adjust to the demands of the labour market, the figure of the ¿flexible professional¿ has emerged. Universities are not immune to these changes and are proposing modifications to the curricula. In this paper, we attempt to depict the views of university graduates regarding their university five years after completing their studies. Information about graduates¿ educational experience is crucial to educational managers in charge of designing curricula and educational policies. The data used in this paper are obtained from the REFLEX Survey.

Informal use of social media in higher education: A case study of Facebook groups

2017

Abstract Recent research in Norway reveals significant differences between how students and educators in higher education report using social media in the context of university activities. Students seem to use such media at their own initiative and largely outside the academic agenda. This study looks further into students’ use of social media by means of a case study of four, student-initiated, Facebook groups created in connection with campus-based courses. The main function of such groups appears to lie in providing an arena for managing practical and social aspects of academic life and for asking for and disseminating information. Occasionally, academic contents are addressed by student…

Language and New Nationalism in Higher Education

2020

This chapter discusses the emerging concerns for the national languages, in particular Finnish. English, previously seen in relatively positive terms in the Finnish society, begins to be construed as a threat to Finnish higher education and research, and to Finnish language at large. The chapter discusses developments since the new University Act 2009. The tension between English and the national languages develops at the same time with changes in the political climate and the rise of populist and (new) nationalist politics, both in Finland and globally. The chapter presents the recycled discourses of frozen constitutional bilingualism, economic nationalism, political elites and killer Engl…

The project considers the Flipped Classroom methodology as a strategy that help to personalize learning. Firstly, higher education context will be considered.
