Detecting Emotions in Comments on Forums

2014

The paper presents one of the most important issues in Natural Language Processing (NLP), emotion identification and classification to implement a computational technology based on existing resources, open-source or freely available for research purposes. Furthermore, we are interested to use it for establishing Gold standards in sentiment analysis area, such as SentiWordNet. In this sense, we propose to recognize and classify the emotions (sentiments) of the public consumer from the written texts which appeared on the various Forums. We analyse the writing style which refers to how consumers construct sentences together when they write comments to indicate their passion about an entity (pe…

Upport vector machines for nonlinear kernel ARMA system identification.

2006

Nonlinear system identification based on support vector machines (SVM) has been usually addressed by means of the standard SVM regression (SVR), which can be seen as an implicit nonlinear autoregressive and moving average (ARMA) model in some reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS). The proposal of this letter is twofold. First, the explicit consideration of an ARMA model in an RKHS (SVM-ARMA 2k) is proposed. We show that stating the ARMA equations in an RKHS leads to solving the regularized normal equations in that RKHS, in terms of the autocorrelation and cross correlation of the (nonlinearly) transformed input and output discrete time processes. Second, a general class of SVM-based syste…

A Damage Identification Approach for Offshore Jacket Platforms Using Partial Modal Results and Artificial Neural Networks

2018

This paper presents a damage identification method for offshore jacket platforms using partially measured modal results and based on artificial intelligence neural networks. Damage identification indices are first proposed combining information of six modal results and natural frequencies. Then, finite element models are established, and damages in structural members are assumed by reducing the structural elastic modulus. From the finite element analysis for a training sample, both the damage identification indices and the damages are obtained, and neural networks are trained. These trained networks are further tested and used for damage prediction of structural members. The calculation res…

Experiencing with electronic image stabilization and PRNU through scene content image registration

2021

Abstract This paper explores content-based image registration as a means of dealing with and understanding better Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) in the context of Photo Response Non-Uniformity (PRNU) alignment. A novel and robust solution to extrapolate the transformation relating the different image output formats for a given device model is proposed. This general approach can be adapted to specifically extract the scale factor (and, when appropriate, the translation) so as to align native resolution images to video frames, with or without EIS on, and proceed to compare PRNU patterns. Comparative evaluations show that the proposed approach outperforms those based on brute-force and p…

The RFID technology for neurosciences: feasibility of limbs' monitoring in sleep diseases.

2009

This contribution investigates the feasibility of the passive UHF RF identification technology for the wireless monitoring of human body movements in some common sleep disorders by means of passive tags equipped with inertial switches. Electromagnetic and mechanical models as well as preliminary experimentations are introduced to analyze all the significant issues concerning the required power, the tag antenna design, the read distance, and the expected biosignals collected by the interrogation device.

An Automatic HEp-2 Specimen Analysis System Based on an Active Contours Model and an SVM Classification

2019

The antinuclear antibody (ANA) test is widely used for screening, diagnosing, and monitoring of autoimmune diseases. The most common methods to determine ANA are indirect immunofluorescence (IIF), performed by human epithelial type 2 (HEp-2) cells, as substrate antigen. The evaluation of ANA consist an analysis of fluorescence intensity and staining patterns. This paper presents a complete and fully automatic system able to characterize IIF images. The fluorescence intensity classification was obtained by performing an image preprocessing phase and implementing a Support Vector Machines (SVM) classifier. The cells identification problem has been addressed by developing a flexible segmentati…

Dog-bite-related attacks: A new forensic approach

2020

Dog attacks today represent a health hazard considering that prevention strategies have not always been successful. The identification of the dog that attacked the victim is necessary, considering the civil or criminal consequences for the animal's owner. An accurate scene analysis must be performed collecting a series of important information.Forensic investigations in dog attacks involve different methods, such as the evaluating of the canine Short Tandem Repeat (STR) typing in saliva traces on wounds or bite mark analysis, however, these techniques cannot always be applied. The effort to find new methods to identify the dog that attacked the victim represents a very interesting field for…

Humidity Sensing by Polymer-Loaded UHF RFID Antennas

2012

Passive ultra high-frequency radio frequency identification tags, besides item labeling, are also able to exploit capability to sense the physical state of the tagged object as well as of the surrounding environment. Here, a new family of polymer-doped tags are proposed and fully characterized for the detection of ambient humidity. A sensitive chemical species based on PEDOT:PSS is used to load a shaped slot, carved into a folded-like patch tag. The communication and sensing capabilities of the resulting radio-sensor are investigated by means of simulation and measurements that show how to control and balance above opposite requirements by a proper deposition of the sensitive material. The …

Fingerprint Registration Using Specialized Genetic Algorithms

2005

One of the most common problem to realize a robust matching algorithm in an Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) is the images registration. In this paper a fingerprints registration method based on a specialized genetic algorithm (GA) is proposed. A global transformation between two fingerprint images is performed using genetic data evolutions based on specialized mutation rate and solution refining. An AFIS including the above method has been developed and tested on two different fingerprint databases: NIST 4 ink-on-paper and self optical scanned. The obtained experimental results show that the proposed approach is comparable with literature systems working on medium quality…
