The liquid argon calorimeter is a key component of the ATLAS detector installed at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The primary purpose of this calorimeter is the measurement of electron and photon kinematic properties. It also provides a crucial input for measuring jets and missing transverse momentum. ""Flora Italiana Digitale": an interactive identification tool for the Flora of Italy

The digital facilities of the second edition of Pignatti's "Flora d'Italia" are presented. A software, called FID (i.e. "Flora Italiana Digitale") will link together a random-access interactive identification tool, a thesaurus, synoptic tables and one template for each single species, including a distribution map (referred to the Italian regions), "ecograms", a text-box and up to 24 high-resolution colour images. The FID follows a "shareware phylosophy". Currently, photographs are an indispensable means for documenting and surveying objects and places, however, they have an inherent limitation due to a lack of identification data. Digital applications on a photograph could resolve this limitation. This paper, therefore, details the results of a research based on an innovative photographic system, with the purpose of identifying objects in digital photos. Interaktīvā proza un tās lasītājs-spēlētājs ir samērā jauna tehnokultūras parādība, tāpēc līdz šim maz pētīta. Bakalaura darbā analizēta sešpadsmit lasītāju-spēlētāju identificēšanās ar interaktīvās prozas Viņa Majestātes kuģis “Straujais” autoru vai varoni ar mērķi noteikt sakarību starp lasītāju-spēlētāju identificēšanās tipu un viņu dzimumu, vecumu un interesēm saistībā ar datorspēlēm un literatūru. Lielākā daļa lasītāju-spēlētāju biežāk ir identificējušies ar interaktīvās prozas varoni, savukārt viena vecākās paaudzes lasītāja ar interesi par literatūru galvenokārt ir identificējusies ar interaktīvās prozas autoru.

Zastosowanie metodyki audytu krajobrazowego do identyfikacji krajobrazów w skali lokalnej na przykładzie gminy Szczyrk

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki identyfikacji i oceny krajobrazów gminy Szczyrk. W badaniach zastosowano metodę audytu krajobrazowego i trzy kryteria delimitacji: ukształtowanie terenu, kompozycję przestrzenną oraz pokrycie terenu. Badania prowadzono na obszarze górskim, gdzie dotychczas metoda nie była testowana. Stwierdzono występowanie 58 jednostek krajobrazowych należących do 13 typów. Powierzchniowo dominują krajobrazy leśne. Układ jednostek nawiązuje do pięter klimatyczno-roślinnych. Wraz ze zwiększaniem skali badań maleją powierzchnie jednostek, nie maleje znacząco ich liczba. System identification via optimised wavelet-based neural networks

Nonlinear system identification by means of wavelet-based neural networks (WBNNs) is presented. An iterative method is proposed, based on a way of combining genetic algorithms (GAs) and least-square techniques with the aim of avoiding redundancy in the representation of the function. GAs are used for optimal selection of the structure of the WBNN and the parameters of the transfer function of its neurones. Least-square techniques are used to update the weights of the net.
