Left-Wing Italian Jews from the 1960s to 1980s: A Fluid Identity
2012
The aim of this chapter is to show how belonging to the Jewish Community as well as to the Italian left contributed to create the identity of certain Italian Jews. Through three life stories an attempt will be made to demonstrate that this link with the left-wing movement, which was very strong in the 1960s and 1970s, started to disappear in the early 1980s. At this time, due to the debate on the Lebanese war, Israel became the main component of their identity. Of course, this process had different characteristics which depended on different experiences. However, generally speaking we can talk about ‘mixed identities’ in which the link with Israel and political ideologies were balanced in v…

Trace Codimensions of Algebras and Their Exponential Growth
2022
The trace codimensions give a quantitative description of the identities satisfied by an algebra with trace. Here we study the asymptotic behaviour of the sequence of trace codimensions c tr n(A) and of pure trace codimensions c ptr n (A) of a finite-dimensional algebra A over a field of characteristic zero. We find an upper and lower bound of both codimensions and as a consequence we get that the limits limn→∞ctrn(A)√n and limn→∞cptrn(A) √n always exist and are integers. This result gives a positive answer to a conjecture of Amitsur in this setting. Finally we characterize the varieties of algebras whose exponential growth is bounded by 2
A method of desingularization for analytic two-dimensional vector field families
1991
It is well known that isolated singularities of two dimensional analytic vector fields can be desingularized: after a finite number of blowing up operations we obtain a vector field that exhibits only elementary singularities. In the present paper we introduce a similar method to simplify the periodic limit sets of analytic families of vector fields. Although the method is applied here only to reduce to families in which the zero set has codimension at least two, we conjecture that it can be used in general. This is related to the famouss Hibert's problem about planar vector fields.
Social and cultural identities in funerary context : the case of stelae in lingones territory during the High Empire
2015
National audience; Si le phénomène de romanisation est visible partout en Gaule, il est des zones où l'identité régionale s'est vue affirmée à travers les monuments funéraires. C'est notamment le cas dans l'ancien territoire des Lingons.

Manoeuvring in Between: Mapping Out the Transnational Identity of Russian-Speaking Latvians in Sweden and Great Britain
2019
AbstractThe proportion of the Russian-speaking population in Latvia increased dramatically during the Soviet period from 12% in 1935 to 42% in 1990 due to organised labour migration within the Soviet Union. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, especially since the end of the 1990s, many Russian-speaking Latvians have migrated to Western countries. Very little is known about the national identities of these Russian-speaking Latvians. By analysing 30 life histories of Russian-speaking migrants from Latvia in Sweden and Great Britain, this study aims to analyse the transnational identities of Russian-speaking Latvians abroad. The analysis shows that the migrants’ own migration patterns in a…
‘Europeanization’ of Family Law: Interaction/Intersection of Cultural and Lexical diversities
2012
The variety of national family laws constitutes a serious obstacle to the free movement of persons within the European Union. From this point of view, the establishment of minimum standards together with the creation of a ‘common core’ of family law rules become one of the main goals of the EU institutions in order to make the principle of Community freedom effective. Since the late 1990s the discourse on the relationship between family law(s) and Community law has changed significantly (1999 Action Plan; The Amsterdam Treaty, art.65; EU Treaty, art.39). Yet, notwithstanding the general sociological/socio-cultural changes that have affected the legal categories of family and marriage (i.e.,…
Alla fiera della memoria. Feste, identità locali e mercato culturale in Sicilia
2013
