Science in early childhood education: the perception of Spanish teachers during initial training
2019
Science teaching is present in the curriculum at all levels of education. However, little research has been done into what content is taught, how it is taught and what pupils actually learn at the pre-primary stage. In this paper, we will study student teachers' perception about what science teaching is being carried out in Second Cycle of Childhood Education classrooms (3-4-5 years). Using their experiences from teaching practice, a number of pre-school education degree students have ompleted a questionnaire through which to understand better the educational reality under study. The results reveal the limited attention given to certain content areas and the absence of key activities throug…
A new case of Worster-Drought syndrome
2012
Introduction: Worster-Drought syndrome (WDS) consists of a congenital pseudobulbar palsy and is usually associated with spastic tetraplegia, learning impairment, behavioural problems, and epilepsy. Congenital bilateral perisylvian syndrome (CBPS) is characterized by bilateral perisylvian polymicrogyria on imaging. Clark et al, have previously proposed a WDS spectrum that includes CBPS, speculating that it may be due to malformation of the perisylvian region due to various perinatal or congenital causes, whether demonstrable on imaging, or functional and not visible with current imaging techniques. Worster-Drought suggested that the syndrome is probably a developmental defect of the motor tr…
Congenital reduction in number of nephrons accelerates renal damage, and limits proximal tubular growth response to release of neonatal partial urete…
2012
Aim: to analyze the evolution of the response to persistent partial ureteral obstruction (PUO) and obstruction/release (PUO/Rel) in mice with 50% reduction in the number of nephrons from 21 days of age (time of weaning) to 42 days of age (adulthood). Methods: C57/BL6 wild-type (WT) and mice with oligosyndactylism and 50% reduction of nephron number (Os/+), were subjected to sham operation or PUO in the first 2 days of life. Additional mice underwent release of obstruction at 7 days (PUO-Rel). The study was performed in kidneys harvested at 21 and 42 days. Using histomorphometry, glomerular area (GA) was determined by PAS staining, and fractional proximal tubular (PT) mass and intact glomeru…
Proposals to innovate and investigate about understanding of the environment in Pre-school and Primary Education.
2017
2013
This article comes from the idea that Elementary Spanish classrooms are in dire need of improvement in terms of social relations, not only because of the significant cultural changes that occurred during the dawn of the twenty-first century as a result of migration flows, but because of global economic complications and technological advances that have complicated relationships. In this situation, this article offers a compilation of different activities in the area of artistic expression of Elementary Education, with the aim of improving social contact and relationships of the students of this educational stage. At the same time, it has been considered essential to characterize these activ…
La evaluación de los materiales didácticos digitales
2017
CONGENITAL REDUCTION IN NUMBER OF NEPHRONS IMPAIRS PROXIMAL TUBULAR GROWTH IN THE CONTRALATERAL KIDNEY DURING PARTIAL UNILATERAL URETERAL OBSTRUCTION
2013
PURPOSE To compare the response of the contralateral (CL) kidney during partial unilateral uretaral obstruction (PUO) and from obstruction/release (PUO/Rel) to sham-operated kidneys in both wild-type (WT) mice and mice with 50% reduction of nephron number (Os/+) MATERIAL AND METHODS C57/BL6 WT and mice with oligosyndactylism and 50% reduction of nephron number (Os/+), were subjected to sham operation or PUO in the first 2 days of life. Additional mice underwent release of obstruction at 7 days (PUO-Rel). All kidneys were harvested at 6 weeks (adulthood). Using histomorphometry, glomerular number and area were determined by PAS staining, and proximal tubular (PT) mass and injury to the glome…
Maternal stress and coping strategies in developmental Dyslexia: An Italian multicenter study
2017
BackgroundStudies about the impact of developmental dyslexia (DD) on parenting are scarce. Our investigation aimed to assess maternal stress levels and mothers’ copying styles in a population of dyslexic children.MethodsA total of 874 children (500 boys, 374 girls; mean age 8.32 ± 2.33 years) affected by DD was included in the study. A total of 1,421 typically developing children (789 boys, 632 girls; mean age 8.25 ± 3.19 years) were recruited from local schools of participating Italian Regions (Abruzzo, Calabria, Campania, Puglia, Umbria, Sicily) and used as control-children group. All mothers (of both DD and typically developing children) filled out an evaluation for parental stress (Pare…
Coping and parental role competence of mothers of preterm infant
2014
The study was aimed at obtaining knowledge about mothers' experiences of preterm birth. The objective of the study is to explore coping strategies and self- perceived parental competence, in mothers of infant born moderately and severely preterm and admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). METHODS: The study involved a group of 16 mothers of moderately preterm children (weeks' gestational age: mean=34, SD=2 and birth weight: mean=2000 g, SD=200 g) and a group of 14 mothers of severely preterm children (weeks' gestational age: mean=29, SD=2 and birth weight: mean=1700 g, SD=350 g). The following instruments were used with mothers to investigate focus areas of research: Coping Ori…
Defining Kawasaki disease and pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome-temporally associated to SARS-CoV-2 infection during SARS-CoV-2 epidemic in…
2021
Abstract Background There is mounting evidence on the existence of a Pediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome-temporally associated to SARS-CoV-2 infection (PIMS-TS), sharing similarities with Kawasaki Disease (KD). The main outcome of the study were to better characterize the clinical features and the treatment response of PIMS-TS and to explore its relationship with KD determining whether KD and PIMS are two distinct entities. Methods The Rheumatology Study Group of the Italian Pediatric Society launched a survey to enroll patients diagnosed with KD (Kawasaki Disease Group – KDG) or KD-like (Kawacovid Group - KCG) disease between February 1st 2020, and May 31st 2020. Demographic, clini…
