This chapter describes the international project Stories in Transit/Storie in transito, a storytelling project with young refugees developed and carried out in Palermo by the two authors with the contribution of several scholars, writers, poets, and artists from the United Kingdom, Italy and other countries. The chapter traces the ideas upon which the project is based, voicing the belief of the authors that the expression of culture is a fundamental human right which should be granted to anyone and that literature and orature constitute an immaterial form of shelter. Il saggio mette a raffronto gli ordinamenti giuridici inglese ed italiano con particolare riferimento all'istituto della responsabilità civile. Segnatamente, il tema della responsabilità per fatto illecito è affrontato allo scopo di cogliere i punti di contatto e quelli di differenza tra gli ordinamenti considerati e di descrivere i possibili canali di collegamento tra un istituto che ha guadagnato un posto centrale negli ordinamenti giuridici e che ora appare ad un bivio: ulteriore espansione o suo deperimento. Lo scritto affronta, quindi, le varie anime della civil lability inglese e gli incroci polifunzionali della responsabilità civile in Italia.

This volume offers a critical insight into the life and work of the controversial Victorian explorer and translator Richard Francis Burton (1821-1890). Analysis focuses on his travel accounts and erotic translations, which both re-elaborated and challenged dominant Victorian discourses on race, gender and sexuality, generating controversies in the fields of anthropology, sexology and medicine. The premise of the study is that Burton entertained an ambiguous relationship with the colonial institutions: on the one hand, he pursued the colonial project, while on the other, he was an irreverent outsider who clashed with the imperial authorities.
