Religion and governance in microfinance institutions: evidence from the global microfinance industry

Masteroppgave i økonomi og administrasjon – Universitetet i Agder 2014 This thesis sought to study the influence of religion on corporate governance in Microfinance Institutions. The study uses secondary data on a sample of rated Christian and secular MFIs compiled in rating reports by rating agencies to compare the governance differences and similarities between Christian and secular MFIs. The research uses the random effects General Least Squares and logistic regression models alongside other univariate statistical methods to test for the effect of religious affiliation on corporate governance. Il contributo intende considerare il rapporto tra musica e potere attraverso una delle più importanti istituzioni del vicereame spagnolo nella penisola italiana, la Cappella Reale di San Pietro, comunemente nota come Cappella Palatina. La partecipazione alle grandi cerimonie di stato di Sei e Settecento, in particolare funerali e autodafé, sottolinea il ruolo dei musicisti della Palatina nel consolidare l’immagine del viceré e dell’identità regia in un contesto geograficamente lontano. Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena on saada tietoa siitä, miten nuoret, korkeakoulutetut suomalaiset muodostavat legitimiteettiarvioitaan Suomen hallituksen pakolaispolitiikasta. Tutkimus on osa kansainvälistä tutkimushanketta, joka toteutettiin Suomessa, Saksassa ja Espanjassa. Työn teoreettinen viitekehys on legitimiteettiteoriassa ja erityisesti Suchmanin (1995) neljässä legitimiteetin alatyypissä. Tutkimusmetodeina käytetään fokusryhmätutkimusta, Q-metodia ja teoriaohjaavaa sisällönanalyysia. Tulokset osoittavat luottamusta hallituksen toimia kohtaan pakolaiskriisissä. Purpose – Based on the rankings of the global competitiveness index and the fragile states index, this paper aims to suggest alternative approaches to shed some light on the effectiveness of rankings in helping emerging economies improve their competitiveness from an institutional standpoint.
