Quasi-digital conversion for resistive devices: application in GMR-based IC current sensors

Resistive devices, including sensors, are used in a huge range of applications within different scenarios. When a complete system is considered, a quasi-digital output is often recommendable. If the conversion is operated at device level, some problems such as noise disturbs, insertion losses and so on, can be reduced. In this work, we describe a resistance-tofrequency (R-f) converter with a suggested application in low current monitoring by means of GiantMagnetoResistance (GMR) sensors. This paper describes an undergraduate 10 ECTS course in the design of analog and digital microelectronic circuits based on a project. This is offered for the students of Electronics engineering in their 3 rd semester of the 6-semester bachelor-programme. The emphasis is given on the mixed signal aspects of the system design. From the project, students get practical experience in the mixed signal system design.
REWAQUA: an advanced technology for water purification in sustainable aquaculture based on photocatalytic ozonation

The present study has been undertaken in order to test the real potential of photocatalytic ozonation in a bench-scale recirculating aquaculture system working on a 180 L reef coral aquarium. Notably, this choice may be considered representative. In fact, (i) the system is virtually closed so that fresh water turnover is practically negligible, (ii) the presence of living organisms is highly diversified (corals, fishes, molluscs, echinoderms and crustaceans) and some of them are particularly sensitive to water quality, (iii) high salinity strongly puts a strain on the purification system. We report on MgO Magnetic Tunnel Junction (MTJ) devices focusing on their potential application in the measurement of electrical current at the integrated circuit level. Single devices and full bridges have been specifically developed for this purpose. A sort of different designs regarding their geometry arrangement as well as the number of constitutive elements have been tested. Experimental characterization has been performed and results including impedance and sensitivity measurements are given.
Quasifractal planar microstrip resonators for microwave circuits

We propose a new shape for microwave planar circuits using the self-similarity of the fractal geometry. This new shape allows the generation of numerous resonant frequencies for this microwave planar resonator due to the surface's encasing. The resonant frequency assessment can be useful for the concept of filters or wide frequency band matching loads as examples, without consuming circuit surface. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A novel approach to the characterization and modeling of microwave transistor packages through dedicated VNA measurements is presented. Stable isotope ratios, carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N), and fatty acids validated the trophic connection between farmed fish in a commercial nearshore fish farm and sea cucumbers in the Mediterranean Sea. This dual tracer approach evaluated organic matter transfer in integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) and the ability of sea cucumbers to incorporate fish farm waste (fish faeces and uneaten artificial fish feed) into their tissue.
