Electrochemically Controlled Ion Dynamics in Porphyrin Nanostructures

2020

peer-reviewed The full text of this article will not be available in ULIR until the embargo expires on the 22/07/2021 The dynamics of ion intercalation into solid matrices influences the performance of key components in most energy storage devices (Li-ion batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells, etc.). Electrochemical methods provide key information on the thermodynamics and kinetics of these ion-transfer processes but are restricted to matrices supported on electronically conductive substrates. In this article, the electrified liquid|liquid interface is introduced as an ideal platform to probe the thermodynamics and kinetics of reversible ion intercalation with nonelectronically active matr…

Molecular modeling of intercalation complexes of antitumor active 9-aminoacridine and a [d, e]-anellated isoquinoline derivative with base paired deo…

1996

Intercalators are molecules capable of sliding between DNA base pairs without breaking up the hydrogen bonds between the DNA bases. On the basis of molecular mechanics calculations structural, models of B-DNA tetranucleotide intercalation complexes of some cytostatic active 9-aminoacridines and of a [d, e]-anellated isoquinoline derivative are presented. The drug complexes are stabilized by energetically favouredvan der Waals interactions and by selective hydrogen bonds between the side chains of the drugs and the DNA bases. Semiempirical quantum chemistry calculations revealed that the chromophoric system of the intercalators is able to form π,π-charge-transfer interactions with the purine…

Long-Term Stability of TiS2–Alkylamine Hybrid Materials

2022

Layered TiS2 intercalated with linear alkylamines has recently attracted significant interest as a model compound for flexible n-type thermoelectric applications, showing remarkably high power factors at room temperature. The thermal and, particularly, environmental stability of such materials is, however, a still an open challenge. In this paper, we show that amine-intercalated TiS2 prepared by a simple mechanochemical process is prone to chemical decomposition through sulfur exsolution, and that the presence of molecular oxygen is likely to mediate the decomposition reaction. Through computational analysis of the possible reaction pathways, we propose that Ti-N adducts are formed as a con…
