Mass spectra of chlorinated veratroles (1,2-dimethoxybenzenes)

The behaviour of all nine chlorinated veratroles (1,2-dimethoxybenzenes) under electron impact has been investigated. The most common fragmentation processes are interpreted using metastable ion analysis and deuterium labelled compounds. For all compounds studied, the most common fragmentation route seems to be the primary loss of a methyl radical followed by loss of carbon monoxide. The ion formed has a well-known quinonoid structure and fragments by several routes elucidated by metastable ion analysis. In general, the spectra of the positional isomers are shown to be practically similar and it is apparent that e.g. the 3- and 4-chloro isomers can be differentiated only from the abundance …

ABSTRACT We report here that modifications of the preanalytical steps of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization–time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) identification of yeasts, with regard to the original protocol provided by the manufacturers, appear to be efficient for the reliable routine identification of clinical yeast isolates in medical laboratories. Size- and Structure-Selective Noncovalent Recognition of Saccharides by Tetraethyl and Tetraphenyl Resorcinarenes in the Gas Phase

The noncovalent complexation of tetraethyl and tetraphenyl resorcinarenes with mono-, di-, and oligosaccharides was studied with negative-polarization electrospray ionization quadrupole ion trap and electrospray ionization Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance mass-spectrometric analysis. The saccharides formed 1:1 complexes with deprotonated resorcinarenes, which exhibited clear size and structure selectivity in their complexation. Nondestructive Size Determination of Thiol-Stabilized Gold Nanoclusters in Solution by Diffusion Ordered NMR Spectroscopy

Diffusion ordered NMR spectroscopy (DOSY) was used as an analytical tool to estimate the size of thiol-stabilized gold nanoclusters in solution, namely, phenylethanethiol (PET) stabilized Au25(PET)18, Au38(PET)24, and Au144(PET)60. This was achieved by determining the diffusion coefficient and hydrodynamic radius from solution samples that were confirmed to be monodispersed by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. AbstractElectrospray ionization Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (ESI-FTICRMS) with additional ab initio calculations were used to examine the alkali metal cation binding selectivity (i.e., molecular recognition) and host properties of tetraethyl resorcarene (1) and its per-methylated derivative (2). The significance of intramolecular hydrogen bonding for the crown conformation was demonstrated. The novel trimolybdenum cluster [Mo(3)(mu(3)-Br)(2)(mu-Br)(3)Br(6)](2-) (1, {Mo(3)}(9+), 9 d-electrons) has been isolated from the reaction of [Mo(CO)(6)] with 1,2-C(2)H(4)Br(2) in refluxing PhCl. The compound has been characterized in solution by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), UV-vis spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and in the solid state by X-ray analysis (counter-cations: (n-Bu)(4)N(+) (1), Et(4)N(+), Et(3)BzN(+)), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), magnetic susceptibility measurements, and infrared spectroscopy. Structural and physicochemical characterization of the inclusion complexes of cyclomaltooligosaccharides (cyclodextrins) with melatonin

The stoichiometry, geometry, stability, and solubility of the inclusion complexes of melatonin (MLT) with native cyclomaltooligosaccharides (α-, β- or γ-cyclodextrins, CDs) are determined experimentally by high-resolution NMR spectroscopy, calorimetric and solubility measurements, and mass spectrometry. The observed differences are discussed in terms of molecular recognition expression of the host-guest (h-g) interactions within the hydrophobic CDs cavities of different size. Effect of protonation and deprotonation on the gas phase reactivity of fluorinated 1,2,4-triazines

Positive and negative electrospray mass spectrometry (MS), in-time and in-space MS n experiments, high-resolution and accurate mass measurements obtained with an Orbitrap, together with density functional theory calculations have been used to study the gas-phase ion chemistry of a series of fluorinated 1,2,4-triazines. As a result of low-energy collision-induced dissociations, occurring in an ion trap and in a triple quadrupole, their protonated and deprotonated molecules show interesting features depending on the nature and structure of the precursor ions.
