Regulation issues of algorithmic administrative decisions: looking for an Italian legislative model

2020

The work aims to highlight the most relevant problematic points that should be taken into consideration by the Italian legislator in order to introduce a regulation of automated administrative decisions. After having briefly recalled the current legal framework on the digitalization of administrative acts and the main doctrinal theories on this subject, the significant positions espressed in the recent administrative case law are examined. With the intent to discuss possible regulatory measures, the main legislative and interpretative solutions developed in this regard in the French legal system are also analyzed.

Ethical Ratings: A Systematic Analysis Oriented to Business Economics

2013

Abstract In a previous study we have researched the causes of the current global crisis, which manifests itself in financial terms, but whose origin is due to the ethical model of reference. Following these ethical issues, the aims and topics of the present paper are: producing a systematic analysis of the ethical indicators used in the current international practices; extrapolating the ethical ranking models with a high relevance in Business Economics and highlighting the strong limits of the methodology in current use.

On the Characterization of Distributed Virtual Environment Systems

2003

Distributed Virtual Environment systems have experienced a spectacular growth last years. One of the key issues in the design of scalable and cost-effective DVE systems is the partitioning problem. This problem consists of efficiently assigning clients (3-D avatars) to the servers in the system, and some techniques have been already proposed for solving it.

Bioenergy Production and Social Sustainability on Finnish Farms

2011

Problems related to energy production have become a significant social issue, also regarding rural areas. There is an apparent need to establish a model for sustainable energy production that would encompass economic, environmental and social sustainability (Elliott 2000). One important solution to reducing carbon dioxide emissions, as well as addressing the depletion of fossil fuel resources, lies in the renewable natural resources that exist in rural areas. However, sustainable and reasonable utilization of these resources is not simple and requires specific analysis of different production models (Mol 2007). Simultaneously, one must consider how these rural resources can be utilized and …

Tween Girls' Perception of Gender Roles and Gender Identities

2011

PurposeThe present study aims to examine girls' perception of gender roles and gender identities in Hong Kong.Design/methodology/approachA total of 16 girls aged 10 to 12 were asked to take pictures from the media that could illustrate “what girls or women should or should not be; and what girls or women should or should not do”. Qualitative interviews were conducted.FindingsAnalysis of interviews and images captured found that tween girls' perceived gender roles for females were based on a mixture of traditional and contemporary role models. Girls in Hong Kong demonstrated conservatism in sexuality. Sexy outlook and pre‐marital sexual relations were considered inappropriate. Tween girls sh…

A comparison study of evolutive algorithms for solving the partitioning problem in distributed virtual environment systems

2004

Fast Internet connections and the widespread use of high performance graphic cards are making Distributed Virtual Environment (DVE) systems very common nowadays. However, there are several key issues in these systems that should still be improved in order to design a scalable and cost-effective system. One of these key issues is the partitioning problem. This problem consists of efficiently assigning clients (3D avatars) to the servers in the system. In this paper, we present a comparison study of different modern heuristics for solving the partitioning problem in DVE systems, as an alternative to the ad hoc heuristic proposed in the literature. Performance evaluation results show that some…

Wireless ATM : handover issues

1998

Basic aspects of cellular systems and the ATM transmission technology are introduced. Wireless ATM is presented as a combination of radio ATM and mobile ATM. Radio ATM is a wireless extension of an ATM connection while mobile ATM contains the necessary extensions to ATM to support mobility. Because the current ATM technology does not support mobility, handover becomes one of the most important research issues for wireless ATM. Wireless ATM handover requirements are thus analysed. A handover solution relying on two inter-related handover protocols is presented and evaluated. Future research is needed to compare this solution with options presented by earlier research and possibly combine the…

Mesoporous silica-based materials for use in biosensors

2012

Abstract There have been great advancements in the development of biosensors capable of characterizing and quantifying biomolecules. This article gives an overview of the formation, the properties and the electrochemical applications of ordered mesoporous silica-based materials in electrocatalysis, electrosorption, matrix immobilization, construction of systems for controlled release of active compounds, sensors, biosensors and immunosensors. We also present a comprehensive overview of current developments and key issues in the determination of some biological molecules with particular emphasis on the evaluation of models.
