Innervation zone shift at different levels of isometric contraction in the biceps brachii muscle

Experiments were carried out to examine whether innervation zone (IZ) location remains stable at different levels of isometric contraction in the biceps brachii muscle (BB), and to determine how the proximity of the IZ affects common surface electromyography (sEMG) parameters. Twelve subjects performed maximal (MVC) and submaximal voluntary isometric contractions at 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% and 75% of MVC. sEMG signals were recorded with a 13 rows x 5 columns grid of electrodes from the short head of BB. The IZ shifted in the proximal direction by up to 2.4 cm, depending upon the subject and electrode column. The mean shift of all the columns was 0.6+/-0.4 cm (10% vs. 100% MVC, P0.001). This…

Implication of general anaesthetic and sedation techniques in temporomandibular joint disorders – a systematic review

The purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review of the literature on temporomandibular joint damage directly related to general anaesthesia and sedation. We searched MEDLINE, SCOPUS and the COCHRANE Library for titles and abstracts containing terms related to the subject. The search delimiters were analytical and descriptive studies with abstracts in Spanish, German, English or French, with no time limit. The search was updated in January 2015. Of the 398 articles found, 89 were duplicates and only 28 were of interest. Joint involvement in psoriasis.

21 unselected hospital patients with psoriasis (7 female, 14 males) were examined for joint lesions by clinical, roentgenological and scintigraphical methods (6 mCi99mTc-Pertechnetate, 4 mCi99mTc-Pyrophosphate). According to traditional concepts only 5 patients suffered from psoriatic arthropathy, in 8 other patients an extensive case history revealed some joint complaints.

Objective: A study is made of the influence of gender, educational level, marital status, income, social support, and perceived general and oral health upon pain intensity in a sample of patients with temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJD) explored in primary care (AP). Background This community-based study investigated the functional, physical and psychosocial impact of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMDs) in adolescents and young adults. It also determined the discriminative capacity of a TMDs-specific oral health related quality of life (OHRQoL) instrument and compared three formats of appraising OHRQoL data. The purpose of this study was to examine intertester and intratester reliability of the shoulder medial rotation test (MRT) and reliability differences depending on examiner expertise.Seventeen athletes with chronic shoulder pain participated in the study.
