Opportunistic infections in immunosuppressed patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis: analysis by the Pharmachild Safety Adjudication Committee

Background: To derive a list of opportunistic infections (OI) through the analysis of the juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) patients in the Pharmachild registry by an independent Safety Adjudication Committee (SAC). Methods: The SAC (3 pediatric rheumatologists and 2 pediatric infectious disease specialists) elaborated and approved by consensus a provisional list of OI for use in JIA. Through a 5 step-procedure, all the severe and serious infections, classified as per MedDRA dictionary and retrieved in the Pharmachild registry, were evaluated by the SAC by answering six questions and adjudicated with the agreement of 3/5 specialists. Objective.The main objective was to determine the 2-year clinical benefit and safety of etanercept (ETN) in children with the juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) categories of extended oligoarthritis (eoJIA), enthesitis-related arthritis (ERA), or psoriatic arthritis (PsA).Methods.CLIPPER was a 96-week, phase IIIb, open-label, multicenter study. Background: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis is a main cause of physical disability and has high economic costs for society. The purpose of this study was to assess the fitness levels and the postural and balance deficits with a specific test battery. Methods: Fifty-six subjects were enrolled in this study. Introduction: Steroids and disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) are widely used in the treatment of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). Dermatologic adverse events including psoriasis have been reported in treatment of various inflammatory diseases (1-3). However, data regarding the occurrence of dermatologic adverse events in JIA patients are scarce (4-6). Objectives: To determine the prevalence of dermatologic adverse events in JIA patients treated with systemic steroids and DMARDs. To investigate an association between drugs and dermatologic adverse events and the association between anti-TNF treatment and psoriasiform lesions.
